Have any of you heard of the Emer vacuums? I'm looking for a NICE stick vacuum to replace my Oreck that is screaming way too loud. I saw these on youtube and ebay. Just wondered what your thoughts were.

The Oreck

Well......I did replace the motor about a year ago. But every since then it has been such a SCREAMER that I can't stand to use it. It was loud with the original motor, but now it is unbearable. I even bought a metal fan to put on it, but that didn't help any either. Maybe I did something wrong when installing it.....I don't know? I really like the little machine. I bought it new 7 years ago. It has worked like a top, until last year when the motor went. If you have any suggestions about what I can do to make it better, I would be glad to hear them. I carried it to a vac shop. He told me it sounded like an Oreck to him. I KNOW it wasn't originally that loud, and it cleaned a lot better then too. Thanks for your suggestion.

There are two wires that go to the motor. One that goes to the switch, on the right side, and the other to the cord. They both go on these little prongs, the the wire on the right goes on the bottom and the left goes on the top.
I've had my Oreck for almost 5 years now and have only replaced one part, the fan chamber. Could the brush-roll be making the noise? Please email if you need any help.

I think I have the wires on the right way. Would it make it louder if it was wired backwards, or would it even run? I'm wondering if it is because it's a generic motor. When I tried to put the metal fan on the machine, I couldn't get it on tight enough because a socket won't fit down inside the fan to tighten it. So I put the plastic one on. It is also sparking pretty bad. Maybe just a bad motor. Do you have a wiring diagram?

Thanks for the pictures. I am going to look into my Oreck again this weekend. Do the black dots on the motor connections mean that is where the black wires go? Tim

Looking to sell?

Does anyone have a stick vacuum (Hooover, Eureka, Lux Trivac, Miele, Emer) that is bagged that maybe you are looking to sell? It seems the ones I find on line are bagless with the exception of older ones or very expensive ones. I found an Emer on E-bay, but I don't know very much about how it would work.

Miele or something else?

I am selling the Oreck. It's just too annoying to deal with and repair. I have found Miele stick vacuums for around $300. I have never used one. The Emer with the power nozzle is on ebay for around $200. I have not used or seen one of them in use either. Can anyone tell me about either of them? Which would be best?

Not to go on too much, but I have also been looking at an Evolution upright made by TTI (I think). It looks a lot like an old Panasonic Jet-Flo. (I had one of those in the 80's and loved it.) The price is right on it, but just don't know if it would clean very well since I have never used one of them either.

Any advice or comments are appreciated.

Tim
