Starlyf Cyclonic Vac & Other Shopping Channel Vacs

So, after the loss of a loved one recently I have part inherited a home with another family member who has been leasing the property out for a number of years. I went about going around the flooring (short pile carpet tiles) to see what cleaning had to be done and my aunt who part owns the building with me now, decided to lift the old tiles in the hall way and replace them with hardwood, but still keeping the carpet tiles in the rooms. She also brought the Starlyf Cyclonic upright vacuum from Best Direct TV to use in the home/leave for new tenant since the home is part-furnished.

OMG what a piece of junk! I note that Oreck in the UK had a similar one many years ago, but used a cordless battery and I'm wondering if any one else has actually bought the Starlyf upright? The info-commercial video states that it has a 15ft cord - but I wish to point out that if anyone buys the model in the UK it only comes with a 5 metre cord and has 850 watts maximum.

Other details that the company don't tell you is the fact that whilst it has a largish 2.5 litre bagless dust bin (and it is relatively easy to empty), the worst part of the design is the hopeless claimed turbo brush that "uses air from the motor" to turn the brush roll. It doesn't spin fast enough and there's a vent hole on the back of the floor head that lets out the air. When I covered it over with my finger in use, I discovered the floor head spins a lot faster!

Has anyone else ever bought the Starlyf cyclonic mains powered hand held upright stick vac before? Or any other modern horrors exclusive to shopping network channels?

I had this exact one

i got it like from a carboot sale for £10, it was very clean and didnt look used, the handheld was powerful but alright, the vacuum in upright mode is CRAP!!! the brushbar belt doesnt break like the dyson clutched models yes, but thhe brush spins slow!!! it couldnt pick up very well it just couldnt even pick up any bits of string off carpets, even out REALLY thin pile rug

My Dad bought for me From Thane direct, a Swivel Sweeper G2, and it was crap aswell, the back saver handle broke 2X and then the plastic clear part around the sweeper cracked and a full or haired brushbar means poor cleaning! id rather have the touchless, thats the best Thank god i never had any battery problems on anything on my life

I had the original Swivel Sweeper for many years and thought it was quite good until the battery started to fail on it. Eventually even with replacement batteries that were supposedly new, it didn't seem to keep a long charge. Eventually the front panel cracked on it, but I often thought what the new G2 was like - just as well I didn't!

We get those over here as a verimark product, JUNK , they come in 220v with a turbine head like this one and a 14v rechargeable one with a motor driven brush roll , Both are pathetic.

As the old adage says "Anything to good to be true usually is" Buyer be ware.

I laugh at all the infomercials for all the gadgets and equipment you can buy from them. It is amazing how well these products work in a controlled setting. Even better than known quality equipment that can be baught locally in most any store.

Equally funny is how much of the "As seen on TV" products are soon found at local thrift stores and at the area rummage sales soon after they have been demonstrated thru the magic of television.

Yep - by the looks of it on Amazon.com the Singer Lazer vac you refer to is the same as the Starlyf - thanks for that info!
