Stark Royal 4000

I just got a Stark Model 4000s of ebay. When was this vacuum made? Is this the same machine as the Royal 4000? I don't see a switch, just a hole where it looks like it might have been right above where the cord comes out at the handle. Also, the aluminum on the front nozzle is cracked, and so is the front left wheel. Is there any way I could fix the nozzle, and where could I buy a new wheel for the vacuum? There in also a stain on the top of the bag, so how could I clean it off?

Your machine is actually known as the #4500ST within Stark's circles. It is of course a virtual twin to the Royal #4000 in that it has the same 10 amp motor and other top-line features.

As to me, I have a 1988 Stark Deluxe model #5000NA which is the early version (serial #: L87B001599 = Dec. 1987) since it has the Rite-Hite screw-type height adjuster and no quick-release top cord hook. As a result, my #5000NA is related to the Royal #889 produced from 1987-88. The later #5000NA has the Au-Toe-Matic toe-touch height adjuster and quick-release top cord hook, and is thus related to the Royal #9000 produced from 1988-90. Both had 6.0 amp motors and used Scafitex outer bags.

The #4000 and #4500ST were produced from 1995 to 2001. They were replacements for the #9700 and #5700 respectively, both of which had 7.0 amp motors and were produced from 1990 to 1995.

Like I said in my last reply, my #5000NA is a greyscale copy (most of the trim on the machine is black, and the bag is grey) of the Royal #889 (which has burgundy trim like your #4500ST, but a mauve bag).

I believe that the nozzle has a lifetime guarantee. You may wish to call Royal and find out how to get it replaced. Their number is 800-321-1134. It's worth a shot!

This machine would use the "B" type bags, while my 5000NA uses the "A" type bags.

Light Bulb and Wheels

Ian,

The light bulb is a very easy fix: just unscrew it from the headlight hood and put a new one in its place.

The wheels are not so easy unless you take it to your local Royal dealer.

Royal B bag fit-yes the tight fit is normal.Otherwise there would be air leakage and possibly the bag would be blown off the bag feeder tube.You have to make sure the mouth of the paper bag is well over and snapped over the ridges on the plastic feed tube.

Ian, Serial #?

Ian, what would be the serial # off of your 4000/4500ST? It looks to be a 1995-2001 model if it has the 10.5 amp motor. Example: I95A00001234 (September 1995).

On HESCOInc.com, the light bulb for a Royal 4000 is part #R-725629 and is listed as being 12 volts.

It's the Revolving Brush

The brush roll always makes that kind of sound, because it's beating the carpet being cleaned. Nothing to worry about in my mind.
