The bone of contention seems to be the use of the word 'identical' to describe the Model G's front pairs and rear pairs of wheels. The correct word is 'similar'.

i·den·ti·cal/ˌîˈden(t)ək(ə)l/
adjective
alike in every detail; exactly the same.

sim·i·lar/ˈsim(ə)lər/
adjective
resembling without being identical.

The front and rear wheels are identical on the model G, however the rear wheels have a rubber tire over the plastic wheel. Take a rear wheel off, carefully bend the 4 metal tabs on the back and remover the hubcap and now soak the wheel and tire in hot water and from the hubcap side get a small screwdriver and gently pull the rubber out from the center, than flip the wheel over and do the same from the back and the rubber tire will come off. I have transferred many rubber tires fro model G machines onto new plastic wheels. When the wheels were available from Electrolux they were basically model L wheels, they were plastic and had the 4 notches in them, so when a customer brought a model G into my store for a wheel, this is how I would replace them, I like to keep a machine as original as possible, so even when the replacement wheel was white, when you put the rubber tire on, you could hardly tell it was replaced.

Very interesting......

I didn't realize you could actually remove the 'rubber cap'. Did Electrolux ever send just the rubber caps to dealers to 'recap' the rear wheels? Or was it always just the rear wheels as a replacement unit? They surely had different part #'s.........

Man, I would suspect those rubber 'recaps' today would be purely unobtainium to find/buy!

When the G wheels were available, they came complete with the rubber tire, hub cap and aluminum axel. The L wheels, which was also the replacement wheels for the front of the model G came only with the plastic wheel, you had to transfer the metal hubcap over. The rear axels from the L were unpeeled at the end, you had to put the wheel on, a washer, than gently peen the end of the shaft over to hold it on. Those were the days.

Cool info

My only dislike of the G are the axle wheels...pretty delicate. They got the message though because by the time they got to the 1205, they were stout....lol.
