I found this wonderful Convertible in near mint condition. Model U4033. The orange color is called "poppy", the white base and handle color is called "oyster". These are VERY rare models - there weren't too many in circulation. Hoover was putting out models by the score in the '70's, and this one was not around for more than about a few years. This machine is in almost perfect condition - there are a few small scuff marks on the hood, which I think I can buff out. I think it got put away when one of the wheels broke (it is missing the left wheel, which is easy to replace) and wasn't used again. I'm pretty sure someone broke the wheel and got frustrated and went out and replaced the vacuum. It got put away in a place that preserved the finish and bag - probably in the back of a closet.

The bag and revolving brushroll are "like new" (after 35 years!). I found some fluff and dirt under the hood, but nothing amounting to 35 years' worth. I had to wash the outer (very orange herringbone plaid!) bag, and I don't have the inner paper bag - I'll have to go buy some (type C).

So cute!!

Thanks guys. I love it! I've always wanted another Model 1076 (the one with the yellow hood and paisley bag), but this is a close second, and has the same features. Love it.

And, Guy...what is the model number of your Eaton's model?
