I recently bought myself an bargain older Miele s428i with only few cosmetic imperfections and a faulty warning sensor, in part for my collection but more so to help with my chronic dust allergies. (Unfortunate condition for a vac collector I know). I noticed that it says "Elna by Miele" Elna being the Swiss Sewing Machine manufacturer. In South Africa it has always been possible to buy Miele products through Miele itself as they have been here for about 30 years. But it is also possible to buy them at Elna flagship stores in shopping malls and such. Does anybody know perhaps what incentive there would be to partially rebrand for this purpose? Because I simply don't understand why they would do this when Elna has a much smaller dealer network than Miele does. It's not like the two companies are interlinked either. Perhaps this happens overseas too? I would love to know more.

Side note: Although I love Miele machines, this is my first and info on the machines is fairly tricky to come by.. is anyone able to date this machine for me? Dankeschön!

Nicolas

That's an extremely cool find. I've never seen a 400 series like that.
I don't think we got them in the US. Typically there were three four series we got a green one and two white pearls s444 s434

I'm curious if you have any literature or anything else about it?

Here's a service video I did have that machine years ago.

It's likely someone down there thought it would sell better with the Elna name on it. Either that, or the Elna people really wanted a Miele vac to sell as their own, perhaps to increase their overall sales.
