... (and the models just prior to the Convertible line (63 etc.) ... is how long it takes for the motor to coast down when you power off the machine. Same for the commercial models, 91 etc.

That aerrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrooooooooooooommm sound as the motor winds down is so cool! I remember the sound of Stan Kann's 972 -- the gigantic Model 700. It took nearly a minute for that motor to stop running! And his 961, the giant 541, also took a long time for the motor to ramp up -- it even had a clutch that kicked in once the motor got running!!

With all of the Kirbys, at least up through the Heritage models, the motor stops almost as soon as you press the switch except when you're using the hose. "Merrrroyt" and it's quiet in a couple of seconds. That's kind of a cool sound, but not as 'musical' as the Hoover motor sounds.
 
i like the tone of the beater bar, brush roll on the carpet, the low toned hummmmm, got to get a few hoovers in my collection
