Hopefully Dyson won't go suing Russell Hobbs over that like they did with Vax's Mach Zen!

All of these vacs are in my local Wilko's & I must say Ii'm pretty impressed with the look of the Zanussi CyclonPower, looks pretty good on show.

Wilko also have the Vax White Upright / Cylinder, the Cylinder a steal at £45 currently.

One thing if you want vac bags get Wilko's ones, just as good quality as genuine ones. They also make fabric ones for Miele's now.

The AEG is a little different than the workzone, instead of a risor-visor it has a flip down brush for hard surfaces. It is the same as the eureka rapid clean step. Although I still agree this is over priced. And the zanussi air speed lite isn't a bad budget vac, it's dual cyclonic, has a washable foam filter, and a very good brushroll. Would you possibly remember how much it cost? because over here we can get them as the eureka airspeed one for about $45.

Wilko have a good range of vacs now - they have this Zanussi on show; looks very impressive but I think it was about £65.

Bought the Airspeed Lite off Amazon UK (£59!!) a while ago now...

Lets just say that this vacuum shouldn't be priced any higher for what you get. Does an alright job but assembling it wasn't part of what I was expecting!

I saw the Airspeed light in TEscos the other day, and whilst the other vacs on display were quite expensive, the Zanussi was £60. It is very light and nimble, but not sure I like the clear bin with all those zig zaggy fins around it though, they don't seem to serve any purpose.

No but then neither do the stickers on a Hoover Jazz do much, either.

The Airspeed Lite is a good lightweight model and a multicyclonic alternative to the Powerlite bagged upright, even if both share a very similar thin plasticky injection moulding feel. At least the pets version comes with a longer hose and longer power cord, but I don't like the noise in general.

All Zanussi/Electrolux need to do now is include the same long hose and long cord on the Powerlite bagged version and you have a cheap'n'cheerful bagged upright that offers far more distance and twice the dust capacity.

Sebo fan, I agree with your review for the most part. I have the basic eureka version and like it for quick runs around the house, but you are completely correct on the quality issues. One interesting thing to note is that on the US models, none come equipped with hepa filters (only thick foam filters) and none of the US versions have bottom empty dirt cups, they must be unscrewed at the top and emptied in a similar manner to how you mentioned in your dyson dc01 and 04 reviews.

Ty. I did notice that the Eureka versions are slightly different - the Airspeed models have a hose that isn't locked in at the top of the handle like our Zanussi/Electrolux versions. I also notice that Eureka have added bagged versions, which confirms my latest fears as to what Hoover Europe may do instead of develop a proper bagged upright - Eureka have cunningly taken a bagless bin, coloured it and left it hollow for a drop in, top fill dust bag. That's a neat design though - Perhaps Zanussi/Electrolux may offer the same in the near distant future.

The Powerlite..

My Mum used to have the 1800w Powerlite Petlover. It was an ok vacuum, but the cord was very short and the hose was horrible - very rigid and awkward to use. I believe the black 1900w Stair version came with a more flexible hose.

As you probably know, I also had the Powerlite, twice infact and also the poor mint green Eco Powerlite with 800 watts. The Eco run out of suction too early and the hose on the back of all of them have fake ribs in them. I also ended up buying the extension hose from Hoovermania on EBay many years ago and though long, suffered from the same fake ribs, liable to bend far too easily, but at least it offered decent distance.

Singingrainbow - you are absolutely correct! I visited my aunt today of which I had bought the Airspeed for and checked the bin assembly again - there is no handle or trapdoor on the lower bin - I got confused because you can unlock the whole bin and the top filter main carry handle to a refuse bin and dump the dust and as you say, a la Dyson DC01 twist and split and then reverse to tip the dust. I've updated my review to reflect that, so thanks for pointing that out.

Indeed Sebo fan, I had wondered about that   I do still wish that we got the hepa filter on our models, it would make them so much more viable for pet owners and allergy sufferers.


 


I do also own several of the larger airspeed uprights and the bag system is interesting, however it adds bulk and means you can't really clean under low furniture plus the bag capacity is reduced. On the positive side however because the bag and bagless bins are interchangeable, I can make my airspeed "suction seal" brush control model bagged if I wish.


 


All in all the biggest flaw for the larger airspeeds is the lack of any seal on the exhaust hepa filter, causing filtration problems.

Perhaps in time HEPA will be available. Electrolux have a habit of doing that with several of their cylinder vacs in so far as offering bagless and bagged options so that you swap between the two. I like the idea as at least you have that option if you run out of bags rather than depending on the bagless system all of the time.

Previously, they just added a free fabric washable dust bag that could serve as an in-between before disposable paper bags could be purchased again. Other brands started to copy that idea.
