When I got this machine it had a slow startup for volume. So, I replaced its 470s and its 1000 cap, which were leaking. These were found in its power supply stage, and their replacement proved to remedy this situation. Still waiting for its replacement belt, but until then its temporary duck tape belt will do, which I used for general testing purposes to begin with. Here are some photos of its progress. Last photo is of the caps which were on the way out.

A freind of mine had an 8-track machine from Toyo-his was a component Rec/Pb deck you use with your Hi-Fi system. He used it to record tapes to use in his car player.Duct tape for a belt?never heard of this until now-I have used rubber bands for this as emergency repairs in broadcast Tapecaster cart players that were belt driven.Sevral of them from the stations secretarys desk got the player back on air and the DJ and manager weere happy!Told them to order new belts as soon as they could.

I love your 8 track!

I love these lesser known name products, I'm not sure I own any Toyo items. Names and products I like are Electra, Juliette, (Topps) Grand Prix, just to name a few. One great feature about 8 tracks is the ease of belt replacement. Try replacing belts on a cassette machine without having a meltdown. I'll bet yours sounds great! I have one General Electric portable two piece set, among other sets.

99% of your pinch rollers are without any melt defects, but your aluminum splices and foam rubbers, your are dead spot on. If you go to eBay and find 8_track_avenue and buy his splices and foam rubbers, you'll never have any problems again. The 8tracks from the mid and late 60s are bad about having their pinch rollers melting...beyond that, not a real problem.
