So I came home from grocery shopping yesterday to find this sitting on my front porch. I guess instead of being the cat lady of the neighborhood I am the vacuum guy. Not one to look a gift horse in the mouth, I all but forgot about the groceries and started playing with my new toys. About an hour later I got a text from a friend, as it turned out she was helping a friend of hers clear out some storage buildings and these were going to be thrown so she brought them to me. There is a unknown model Singer floor polisher(the model number on the plate is rubbed off), a 90ish Singer upright(that sounds like a lawn mower, it is so loud), a kirby omega, and a Electrolux CB. Can't decide if I want to start with the Kirby or the Electrolux? Decisions, decisions.

Nice friend ... nice haul! I don't know about the others, but the aqua CB is the first version that was made by The White Mop Wringer Company (acquired by Electrolux Corporation in 1963) from 1965-66 to match the aqua Model G and aqua Model B-8 Floor Polisher/Carpet Beautifier. The painted galvanized canister like yours was the budget version. There was also a stainless steel canister that was sold at a higher price. Both are quite rare, as they were only sold for about a year before the color was changed to tan to match that line of cleaners.

You can get a copy of the 1965 manual from this Vacuumland thread: http://www.vacuumland.org/cgi-bin/TD/TD-VIEWTHREAD.cgi?21241

P. S. The teal hose is not original to the CB. It was made during the teal-colored 1205 era (1968-74)and teal-colored Model L era (1968-75).

P.P.S. The CB's full color name was called aquamarine green by Electrolux--I use "aqua", because it's shorter.

That's pretty cool...

...especially when two of my favorite brands, Kirby and Electrolux, are involved. I think my parents had a Singer upright similar to that. I used to jokingly call it the "B-25" because it sounded like a large, propeller-driven aircraft trying to take off. If my tinnitus were as bad then as it is now, I would have to wear ear protection to use it--and probably should have then. They got the Singer to replace their trusty green and tan Hoover Convertible that had served them well for about 20 years and that I used for almost a decade after that. I never considered that machine to be much of an 'upgrade' from the Hoover.

Thanks for the replies. I was wondering about the color of the tank myself. I tried searching the archives to see what I could find but only saw ones with the stainless tank. I thought maybe someone had painted it or it was a replacement since in most of the pics is has Electrolux stamped near the hose port. Its nice to know its not. It has a huge hat sort of filter over the motor, does this vac take a bag or is it like modern shop vacs that you take the lid off and dump the tank?

That Singer is a piece of work alright. I think she probably brought me those because I also collect Singer Sewing machines. The sewing room is probably where I will use that one. After I buy ear plugs that is...LOL

P.S. What kind of hose would the CB have had?

"more vacuums"

The Singer polisher was made by Shetland.
The Singer upright became the Bissell and many feel it was not as good as the similar Hoover Elite.
The Kirby is one of their many long life quality uprights.
The CB is,as above,RARE!I have maybe 10 stainless CB models in the back room.(Most available if any are interested.)But I have only seen ONE painted tank model years ago and remember it as being white like the early Mo L.
Nice group of machines to find abandoned on your doorstep!

I believe the painted canisters were only offered during the Model G era (through 1968). I've never heard of a teal-painted one, anyway.

Here's a link to a thread which includes a pic of the tan painted one: http://www.vacuumland.org/cgi-bin/TD/TD-VIEWTHREAD.cgi?15364

And, sorry, I didn't link to the correct thread that includes the 1965 CB manual. Here it is: http://www.vacuumland.org/cgi-bin/TD/TD-VIEWTHREAD.cgi?19640

While the CB didn't come with a bag, some owners have used ones such as Mastercraft Paper Bag #4464, 10-gallon ShopVac bags at Lowe's, or EVAC-P-00017061 ($11.99 for 3-pack) from evacuumstore.com.

Regarding the Singer/Shetland polisher, it's the economy model made sometime in the early 1960s. Here's an ad which includes it:

I have to say That I love the CB Electrolux machines. I know they were never sold here in SA and If I consider that it can cost a eye watering $ 500.00 just in import& shipping costs to get a Hoover convertible here It would probably cost me well over $ 1500.00 Just to get one to me.

Love The Kirby aswell, I have one of those I am almost finished with.

On Another note, What is that parked behind the vacuums?

Behind the vacuums..

is a 1967 Chevrolet Camaro. My partner's grandmother ordered it new and gave it to him when he graduated college. Besides collecting vacuums, sewing machines and irons, I like to work on old cars. We also have a 1960 Chevrolet Biscayne. With Texas weather so iffy, right now I am working on vacuums since I can be inside for that.

I was pretty impressed with the CB. Even though the hose that was with it is deader than a door nail it still had pretty good suction. I have and extra hose that came with my 1205 that is 10ft(not original) I put on it and was really amazed. Now I want to find a PN that I can jury rig to work with it. I think that will be a great machine to use at Christmas when it is time to take down trees and there are needles everywhere.

Paper filters were available for the CB that fit over the cloth filter in the machine.

To my knowledge only the first two models of CB (light blue and tan) had the option of either the painted tank or the stainless steel one. The last 3 (blue, gold and brown) all came with the stainless steel tanks only.

Nice..

Nice find on that Electrolux CB! I wish that a Classic just showed up at my door one day too! They put them on your porch because you are a vacuum orphanage!!

The original power nozzle, model PN-1, had an ivory cover with teal trim (same as the aqua Model G, Model R, ivory Model L, and Model GH with teal trim and wheels).

_______

I found a May 1965 Singer newspaper ad with these models (I only copied the regular prices):

P-3 Economy Polisher & Carpet Shampooer $34.95
P-21 De Luxe Polisher & Carpet $59.95
C-5 Golden Glide $89.95
CU-41 Upright $79.95
E-1 Full Capacity Vacuum $59.95
E-4 Full Power Canister Vacuum $49.95

So, your floor polisher may have been a model P-1, P-2, P-3, or another with that patterned designation.
