Well I finally received my hoover model 69 in the mail, a beautiful machine in very nice original shape! From one of my close friends great grandmothers home. And it arrived with the hood and top of the motor smashed and the lense tabs cracked off ((((((. Does anyone have some spare model 69 parts to possibly replace the hood lense and top of the motor ((

Irs gotten to the point I just about refuse to ship anything, seems like 1 out of 3 things gets damaged.

It makes me so sad, it’s like these things are so hard to fix or replace. We pay for things to be shipped and handled with care. But it’s impossible.

I've never shipped a vacuum, and I have to ship one this coming week.

I'm so worried that that's how it's going to look when it reaches its destination.

I hope someone can come up with the parts you need. That's such a pretty machine.

Thanks Barry, yeah these convertibles hold a certain part of centimetal value, growing up a lot of my family members had these vacuums, and the mode 65,66, and 69 were 3 that were always in my childhood. I sure hope I can find the parts to put her back together. Was such a clean model 69.

Gorilla super glue gel, epoxy glue over that for reinforcement. If you're good, you can make that hood look 90%. You could pull out all the stops and bondo and paint it, but I don't think it's really worth it. I can't really tell what's up with the top of the motor? It looks like a bit of black plastic has cracked off.

I hope you made an insurance claim on the shipping. Even if it's insured for like $20, that's still $20.

But in saying that, what was the packaging like? Was the hoover in a stout cardboard box, with copious amounts of bubble-wrap? Or was the machine sent through the postal system in a glorified bin bag?

It was packed very well, I would say a
Medium duty cardboard box, but there was lots and lots of bubble wrap used! There was a dent in the box, looked to be like it was thrown or something was thrown at it.

All shipping people throw the boxes. Most of the time it works out fine, but once in a while, the package lands sideways or against something pointy, etc.

I have tons of Hoover hoods.

Sadly, none for a famed 69. I recently shipped a 1070 from Spokane, said a prayer and made a wish. Luckily, it arrived at my door unscathed.
I'm sure, among st all of us, parts will arrive to return it to its original, perfect state. There is nothing sadder than a Hoover in the hospital.
It looks like a great base.

Ask the seller for a refund (I don't think they will want it shipped back since it's so damaged) and see if you can get your money back on it. Then, just patch it back together as best you can until you can get replacement parts and use your refinded money to fund the parts. You can still use it, it's all just cosmetic damage.

Was the item packaged well? I have bought things on sites like ebay where the sellers try to save a few bucks on packaging and use too little and then the item gets damaged in transit. Sellers that try to skimp just get bitten in the a$$ in the end and have to offer a refund or risk getting negative feedback. It saves everyone the hassle if they just ship it how they would want their own item shipped/delivered.

Thanks everyone, yeah I went to post office, there was no insurance put on the 69, contacted seller and they pretty much said sorry bud can’t help ya, that’s the risk with shipping. Hoods to busted up to try and repair. There’s big spider cracks down the center and some pieces of the hood are missing, it was packaged ok, box was alittle on the week side I will say. But I’ll just have to wait it out for a 69 good lens and top motor cover to pop up!

that hood is not too damaged to repair

coat the cracks generously with model cement and hold the pieces together with some presssure for about 10 mins.. see this 719 hood below. it had cracks that bad. it IS fixable. you can still see the crack lines in the photo
