One of my favorite vac designs is the Hoover Celebrity. Probably not the best made, nor the most efficient bag design. But sometimes we like something just because.
Anyway, today I got the vac in the pictures below and it's in very nice condition, having seen very little use. It's a Celebrity Model S3191, a later one in the QS (Quiet Series) but not the top of the line model with the retractable cord. I find it interesting that Hoover used to make so many different variations of similar models, with options and trim being the differences. The domestic auto makers used to do that more too.
Three of the tools are missing, but I've got a box full of spares to fill in the holes. When the vacs are just sitting around, there's no sense in having the tools all in place. Kinda like having your shaving brush and mug that you never used all set up for your army foot locker display in BCT.
This QS Celebrity has three caster wheels. I briefly had another QS, the fancy one with the retractable cord (it didn't). It had two large rear wheels and one caster in front. That vac was a dog; it was one of only a couple of vacs that I didn't plug in and listen to before I bought them. I had a chance to snatch three vacs cheaply at once and I was in a hurry. Two were good but the QS was bad. When I opened it up later, I noticed that the plastic motor cover was partially melted. Then when I plugged it in and pressed the on button, it sounded like tableware in the garbage disposer. When I did an autopsy, the bottom bearing was running race to race with no balls left in it. I came to the conclusion that someone had left the machine on for days or weeks straight; it just got hot after all that time running, melting the cover and wiping out the bearing.
