Smelly Vacuum Hose

Hey all!

I purchased a 14 ft Rainbow E2 electrified hose second hand. What is the best way to clean and deodorize the inside of the hose?

Thanks in advance!

Marc
Leave it outside. Since it's an electric hose I don't think you want to soak it in anything. Air and maybe a fan blowing through it. On some hoses you can push a rag soaked in alcohol through using a long pole but not sure with a Rainbow hose if that is possible.

I'd suck up a basin or two of warm water for starters, it's safe to do that with the electrified hose. If it's still smelly, I'd get some Tornado Power Cleaning Cloths to suck up.

I'd put activated charcoal in the hose, and stuff a rag in each end and then shake it back and forth and all around and then leave it sit for a week or so and check if the odor is gone. Someone likely stored the vacuum away wet or with a wet basin and the dirty water smell went into everything. You also might try spraying or pouring enzymatic pet cleaner into the hose .

Because the Rainbow is a water based vacuum, I would presume they anticipated that in the design to make the hose waterproof, so it might be safe to wash, but I have no idea. Old electric hoses or any old vacuum hose you should never wash because the hose's inner skeleton is metal springs that can rust, and the cords were not as well sealed and protected and water could get in between the sheathing of the wires.

You can suck up water with the electric hose, the hose is double insulated and designed for wet pickup when you're like using the Aquamate. You just don't submerge the handle or pick up wet areas with the electric power nozzle.

And while searching for these listings I stumbled on a vintage Kenmore hose that almost never comes up for sale in good condition. The hose material was very bad and most of them have long since disintegrated. I would joke that on a quiet night you could hear these hoses slowly disintegrating in the closet. There is a gray replacement that lasts, but it looks wrong. The original was almond tan. But here was the original tan hose in nearly perfect condition with no tears. Swoop ! Come to daddy. I will never use it but it will be the original display hose for an old Kenny I have. This is why I always say ebay is your friend.

Does your Kenmore look like mine? This is a model 116.730. Got it off ebay several years ago. My parents had the same model when I was a kid, they used it in the basement and to clean out the cars. Wish I had theirs, it was more complete and in better shape than the one I have.
