My Dad had one back in the 80's Many hours were spend behind the handle lol, Until A SouthernCross Lawn conventional lawn mower replaced it.

I had the predecessor to this one a few years back, It was the first flymo with the built in grass catcher, as Electrolux built flymo lawn mowers back then, It was nice But far to small for my house at the time and could not handle Long or wet grass

that model is prone to motor burn out because the motor fitted is far too small Flymo mowers used to have electrolux vac motors in them now the motor used is about the size of those used in a strimmer theres also a belt in there driving a pully arangement with the blade attached .a new motor costs around 55 quid and a new mower about 65 i personally will never buy another Flymo but hey if it works its a good find

Well, the rubber button is a circle on mine, and it dont have that sticker on the bin either, I love the emptying mechanism! its like a Dyson DC14

Gareth, are you sure it was this Flymo? I'm fairly certain these are more recent. Deffo made in the last 10 years. Although that style has been around for a fair few years now, it could've been a much older model.

We got ours from a Carboot sale, Cant remember how much it was, but it was about 3 years ago, and its very good, not in Argos though, maybe it was in the past though

Blade/cutter

Looks like the smaller type of Flymo, with the (nearly useless) plastic cutters. If it IS a metal blade model, it may cut some grass. ;-)
I agree with the replies re: undersized motor and belt drive. If you avoid wet (including dew) grass, you may get some life out of it. Treat it to a stripdown and clean all the dried grass out of the motor and filter, and lubricate the top (bronze bush) motor bearing while you are about it...

I had that model of Flymo and to say it was a disappointment is an understatemtent.

It bogged down whenever you tried to turn it around, the handle snapped off after a few months and the plastic was so thin and flimsy it was a miracle only a few pieces broke.

Sorry, but I shall not be purchasing another Flymo!!

This flymo is great, the emptying mechanism is satisfying, and also it mas metal blades, it even floats around like a Dyson ball and is storage friendly!

Well, the handle broke on mine unfortunately

Whereas, my old faithful 1984 Qualcast Mow n Trim still lives on without any breakages.

It has plastic blades which are broken but it still cuts grass! Not going g to use it thought only got it To save it being in that skip

Sorry, not to hijack the thread or anything, but Jamie I know you like your mowers. I found this pic online. This is the mower my Mum used to have before we had the Qualcast Concord.

I don't have a picture of my Mow n Trim, but I believe you showed me a catalogue book scan with that model for sale?
