This is the second EBK340 I have acquired. The first came with my Oreck DutchTech1400. This one came with an Airstorm from 2004. You can see the inner cover is cracked around the neck area. The culprit is, I believe, the wand release pedal. It puts a torque on the whole area. On the 340 that came with my DutchTech this whole part broke into pieces upon disassembly. I figured at the time someone must have abused it. But now I see the same problem with this one but the plastic hasn't completely broken yet. Last night I epoxied some of the cracks around the top of the neck but while examining the repair later noticed yet more cracks. There appears to be enough clearance to make patches out of spare plastic and epoxy them over the cracks. A new inner cover is over $50 and will have the same fatal flaw. Repairing this one might actually last longer.

There's your great German quality. Kludge. The plastic is hard and brittle. Oh yeah, ordered a new brush roll and this helix shaped thing arrived. That's what they sell now. Looks like it came from a budget Hoover. I double checked and it is the right part.
