Singer Quantum 800

VacuumLand – Vintage & Modern Vacuum Enthusiasts

Help Support VacuumLand:

This looks very much like a large Panasonic we got here in the early 90's, The twin belt system is so the brush can switch off to clean hard flooring, Its very similar to the Panasonic design too

Close, but no cigar....

This vacuum was made by SANYO, not Panasonic! The powerhead desisn is IDENTICAL to my Sanyo Performax SC-U101. It does not have the headlight or floor/rug selector, but you can see where the headlight lens would be on it, & the brushroll is identical to this Singer.

I'll have to post a pic of my Sanyo in a separate thread so you guys can see what I mean.

Guy:

Panasonic & Sanyo were always independent of each other, & Sanyo was direct competition for Panasonic. The Sanyo Performax upright vacuums were meant to compete directly against the Panasonic Performance Plus line. Same as other companies, such as Sharp & Bernina, made vacuums to compete with Panasonic.

Actually - Panasonic only recently bought out their competitor Sanyo....just a few years ago. Panasonic has continued to use the Sanyo brandname for some products.

The history of the two companies is very interesting: at the very beginning, in post WWII Japan, Sanyo was established by a relative of the founders of Matsushita (the original Japanese name of the National Panasonic company). I think the relative may have been a brother-in-law of the founder of Matsushita, or a nephew...can't remember what the relationship was......

Very interesting!

One thing to note is that Sharp used a similar hose setup, where you could move the main hose aside, plug it into the closed port, and then plug the attachment hose into the main suction port for tool use. Sanyos from that era may have had a similar setup (can't remember). I'm going to guess it's a re-badged Sharp, but it's awfully similar to TOL Panasonics from that time as well.

I've never seen this machine. Should clean up nicely. Thanks for sharing!

It is a Sharp, just a different name. They used the same moldings and same features that Sharp made for Singer. Take a look at this similar model that I found on ebay.

Definitely a Sharp!

I had 3 of them. Great machines, but the clutch mechanism was troublesome. Mine were much quieter than the Panasonics or Sanyos of the time. They were very similar to some of the first generation Panasonic Jet-Flo machines, before Pana uprights got louder.
