I have a popular brand room air cleaner. It works very well and I have no complaints EXCEPT the cost of replacement hepa and charcoal filters.
The best price I can find for a replacement hepa and charcoal filter is $65.99 for the hepa and a charcoal filter for $18.48.
That would be $102.95 for each year for JUST one hepa filter and 2 charcoal replacements.
Seems like a LOT of money for a paper filter. The very same thing that made me HAPPY to sell my one of my high end canister vacuums. The cost of the bags, hepa filters was very high and as we know the cost would NOT be going down as the years pass.
I have noticed the air cleaner filters lasted 2 times as long after I got my Rainbow. Enough proof that it WAS either removing more dirt or leaking much less dust back into the room. I just resent paying for the replacement filters over and over again.

"The best price I can find for a replacement hepa and charcoal filter is $65.99 for the hepa and a charcoal filter for $18.48." $65.99 and $18.48 works out at $84.47, not $102.95.

As per usual JM, you haven't read this OP's original post, properly.

By combining TWO of the charcoal filters at $18-46 each gives you a total of $36-92 AND then adding the HEPA filter at $65-99 gives the total amount of $102.95

I understand exactly what William is saying here. William, what model in particular are you referring to?

Generally I feel sorry for those who have to pay high costs on filters and bags. In the UK we do have some charges that are lower than most.

But then we also seem to have a larger market of copy bags too.

I was shocked for example on the cost price of SEBO & Miele bags and filters in the U.S compared to the U.K and already from here I have sent one member in particular a few filters for their Miele vacuum because the carry charge is less than retailers are charging in the U.S

Certainly to all our American & Canadian members who may well buy Henry vacuums in the future, now is the time to take advantage of those in Europe where the home company consumables may be cheaper to source rather than continuously relying on EBAY!

But then it would appear that the U.S market aren't so hot on optional accessories - this is because for the most part a lot of brands sell specific vacuum cleaner models for specific needs. It may be different for home companies like American brands but Miele in the U.S seem to be famed for this. Whereas we can pay for optional parts, upgraded filters etc to custom build our own vacuums, other countries have specific models according to pricing.

Sick of the high cost of replacement filters

Jamie,
Here is how I came out with that total:

The makers instructions tell me to replace the hepa filter once a year and the charcoal filter 2 times a year at $18.48 each.
The user is to replace the filters sooner if the "change light" comes on before 12 months. That is how I came to the total of $102.95.
I can't believe it can be good to try and keep using a clogged filter. It would seem it would cut down on the efficiency of the unit and I could be just blowing dust back into the room.
Once you buy the product-they got you. You either keep paying the price of the filters or replace the unit.
After several years, I am just resenting the repeating cost of the filters every year.
It really made me stop and think what some of the high end vacuum makers are asking the buyer to pay for the life of the unit.
Far cry from the cost of the old Hoover, Electrolux or Air-Way throw-a-way bags.

Please forgive me, I had just came back from work when I replied and hadn't had time to drink a coffee or two before posting and as such, wasn't thinking straight.
