I went to a thrift store yesterday and found a Hoover. It was in bad shape, and the store was closing, so I did not buy it. I was just wondering if this was a rarity or not.

It had a very large Hoover logo on the base, like at least 2 time bigger than the normal size. It had a yellow outer-bag that said " Convertible Special" on the bottom. Brown cord. I think the model number stared with a 5, with three numbers.

The handle needed it be oiled REALLY badly, and the brush strips were there, but less than a 1cm of brush remains. So with that said I think the motor might be in bad shape. (I did not turn it on)

Thanks
Nathaniel

Try It Out If They'll Let You

If the motor sounds good and it's priced reasonable, I'd say go for it! Brush strips won't cost much and are easy to replace.
The word "Special" on a Convertible meant it was the lower priced model with no headlight, shorter cord, and snaps instead of a zipper on the bag.

Yes, in the days of the convertible, "Special" was codeword for cheap lol. Specials also lacked the full wrap-around bumper guard.

The huge Hoover badge means that its an early model. The earlier Convertibles are getting somewhat harder to find. I would definitely pick it up.

OMG

GET IT THat would be the rare Convertible 564 made in 1962. It was a promo and wasn;t as rare as the red 574 but was rare non the less. If it still have the ORIGINAL bag I would pay for it if you didn't want it yourself. either way PLEASE don't leave it there!!!
