DOES ANYONE HAVE ANYTHIHG GOOD OR BAD TO SAY ABOUT SHARK? I WANT TO GET A SMALL
VACUUM FOR MY UPSTAIRS AND I'M LOOKING IN TO THE SHARK NAVIGATOR. I HAVE A HOOVER
WINDTUNNEL AIR AND I'M NOT THAT IMPRESSED WITH IT ON PICKING UP DOG AND CAT HAIR.
JOE.

I had been looking for a lighter weight replacement for my Miele Twist to use during the week in between deep cleaning sessions with the central vac. I ended up purchasing the Shark Rotator (fully expecting to return it) and couldn't believe how great it performed! It's relatively light, quiet, and does a pretty nice job!

One of the Shark bagless uprights indeed did very well in Consumer Reports' tests, and is a recommended model: The Shark Rotator Professional Lift-Away NV501.

Here are the scores:

Carpet cleaning: very good
Bare floor cleaning: excellent
Airflow through the hose for tool use: good
Noise level: very good
Emissions control: excellent
Handling (pushing, pulling, carrying): very good
Pet hair removal: only fair

Here's a summary of their impressions -
CR's Take

Shark's 3-in-1 upright isn't without flaws, but it conveniently converts from an upright to a canister or hand vacuum with the touch of a button. The lightweight, 17-pound vac was impressive at cleaning carpets with little emissions, and its swiveling head allowed easy maneuvering. It also was fairly quiet. Minuses: Although we liked the tools, airflow was only so-so. In our pet-hair pickup test, most hair wound around the brush. And you don't get manual carpet pile-height adjustment, which is better than automatic systems at matching the brush to the surface.

Highs
• Excels at removing embedded dirt from carpets
• Performs well when cleaning bare floors, ideal for kitchens, bathrooms, and hardwood floors
• Excels at capturing all the dust it picks up, important if you have allergies

Lows
• The on/off switch is inconveniently placed
• Requires manually emptying the bin, which is messier and sometimes presents problems for those with allergies or other respiratory issues
• Lacks a manual carpet-height adjust

I agree with you, parts availability for Shark vacuums can be iffy. And $60 to replace the whole head, & no separate part # for the brushroll?! Sounds like they are looking to gouge customers.

However, having said that, for me that would be even more reason to be diligent in maintaining the vacuum & keeping the brushroll clean. And since Eurekaexpress is a collector, I'm sure the Shark would see a better life than if it was in the hands of an average person.

I have one....

The navigator lift away. Since I have over 35 vacuums, I dont use it much but its a great machine

This arrived this morning, badged as Morphy Richards in the UK. I am really impressed with the performance although I would not have paid £199.99 for it. I got it of Amazon for £99. Was very shocked at how much dirty it pulled out of the carpets, especially as I vacuum everyday. A lot quieter than I expected too. My only niggle so far is the hose is very stiff and doesn't stretch too far but it doesn't seem to be much of a problem when using it in lift away mode.

I've heard they are better than a bagless Hoover. After reading the Consumer Reports info above, it's funny how they ding the Shark for not having manual carpet pile adjustment. But then, in the very next paragraph above, they were extolling it as having excellent embedded dirt removal... Hilarious...

Shark Rotator Lift Away

If I had to get a Shark vacuum, I would get the Rotator Lift Away. That's their top-of-the-line model.

My buddy has the Lift Away. I have played around with it for about an hour checking it out. It is a pretty nice machine for the price.

Shark vacs

well i can't comment on the rotator but the Lift away pro has been fairly impressive definitely outdoes the Dysons i have. I don't care for the high pitch of the machine but it's not overly loud. It pulls if i recall a 1 or 1.5 on the baird meter. For a bagless machine it's pretty good.

No parts and no after sales service doesn't apply to Shark. At their price point most consumers will just get another cleaner. If it lasts a year or 2 they would be happy. That is partially why it is priced the way it is.

I have a

suction only sharp bagless stick vacuum in the kitchen for quick pickups, and it works great. I have had it for about 8 or 9 years and I have not had any trouble at all with it. It is great for bare floors but not a deep cleaner for carpets. Dan

I have the original navigator. The blue one that they only sell at wal mart.
It's and ok vacuum but it kinda fusses at me every now and then... What I mean is, is that the motor runs very high pitch, almost like its slightly off balance but it just recently stopped so I guess I'm not complaining.
