Shark vacuum repair

Does anybody know how to release this Fasner from the powerhead. I’m trying to change the lower duct hose. Thanks

Shark vacuums are near impossible to repair. You have to break it to get it apart, and even if you manage to get it apart without breaking it, parts are near impossible to find. Shark will sell you the whole powerhead for $80 plus shipping, even when it's only a minor component that's broken. I would just keep prying at it.

I think once the hose is released from the other end it just unscrews by twisting the hose. Shark does have lots of parts on line, you may give them a call. They have a 5 year warranty so if it’s still within the 5 years they will replace the part. If you bought the vac at bed bath and beyond or Costco they will exchange it for another or something else or refund your money at a Costco.

I have a similar model, and it is impossible to fully disassemble the nozzle without breaking something. You could try substituting the Shark hose with a cutoff from another hose, but that would be a temporary solution at best. Also, Shark's 5 year "warranty" is a joke. It's actually more like a replacement plan. Usually, Shark gives you three options. It's either buy the whole motorhead at full price plus shipping, ship the vacuum back to them at your expense, or buy a new Shark at a heavily discounted price. I'm going to guess that you've already voided the aforementioned "warranty" when you opened the nozzle up, so your only option is buying the whole nozzle. It's quite clear that Shark vacuums are meant to be replaced every few years as opposed to being maintained or repaired It's incredibly wasteful and is definitely one of the reasons why I will never give a dime of my money to Shark!

Sharks are not hard to fix. If you pay attention to screws.
The top lip and the circular part comes apart. Be careful as the power nozzle wires are just inside.
.if you want to fix the hose it was $8 on Amazon in December.
You can break it but that's if you go stabbing at it with a screwdriver. Just pop the circular part off and it should be where it looks like a coin slot.

idk, my Shark looks different. There are lots of people who hate Shark and other makes around here. Don't pay them much mind. If you want to fix something, do it. Whether it's cuz you like the machine, need it, want the experience, or just want to keep it out of a landfill. Yeah, there are always some lost causes, and learning when to call it quits is a life skill. Just go ahead and attack it. Les seems to think you can indeed pry that cap off. If I had to guess from the picture, it looks like you were trying to pry out the center oblong piece, but I bet that stays put and you pry off the circular part.

This was one of the first Shark lift away vacuums. I haven’t used it in quite some time because of the cracked hose. Since I’ve been quarantined And bored out of my mind I decided to tinker with it. I know shark gets a Lotta hate on this site, but I actually enjoy using this for a quick little pick ups. Hope everybody stay safe out there, and thanks again

The full circle around it shows it comes apart. It may have a screw. The hose can be glued/siliconed.
I have a few sharks. There good solid body easy to maintain vacuums.
They can call them plastic crap that's fine. I like and use them. The rocket is perfect for tile/wood and laminates. The rotated does good on carpets.

The duoclean x2 cordless stick vac I got Refurbished from Woot with the attachments, charger, and two batteries has been great so far and has plenty of power for what it is and batteries actually last along time. Can't say how serviceable it will be but hoses have held up OK so far. It will pick up large chuncks of bird treats and stuff my parrot Dobby dumps in his favorite spots and cleans the missed spots on the carpet nicely. I know parts and batteries are available so parts for yours should be easy to find as long as you manage to get it apart.
If I get 5 years out of mine I've got my money out of it but if it's still worth fixing I will, I really like it.
I have my various Royal machines and others for when I need a deep cleaning.

Miskini: maybe use a knife to carefully pry so as not to damage things too badly. My Dad always told me is the right tool for the job. Glad you like the product well enough to consider repair...Shark customer service may actually tell you how to get this apart to replace the hose. I think I have seen the hoses alone in the web site.

If you solder or work on computers/electronics they sell tools,
I have a mini pry tool to open tablets, screens etc. If you type in Amazon you can find them. There quite handy.
Dartman I have a few sharks and want the duo clean cordless. I was wondering how well it compared to other corded sharks.

Shark customer service will ABSOLUTELY NOT tell you how to get it apart! They will tell you that doing so will "void the warranty" and blah blah blah. The older Shark Navigator models are actually easy to get apart by Shark standards. Not as easy as a Bissell PowerForce or Bissell Cleanview, but still pretty easy. I got a free Shark Navigator Lift-Away "Professional" from a vac shop and needed a new motor, as a screw from the vacuum somehow came loose and had fallen into the fan, completely destroying it. I eventually found a motor from a Hoover Air Lift that fit. It wasn't hard to take apart, but there are A LOT screws. The Shark Rotator and Shark Rocket series vacuums are much harder to completely disassemble.

I have a shark cordless vac I bought from Costco. If you have pets I do not recommend it. The hair wraps around the cyclone and clogs the fill hole to the dust container. You have to stick your hands in there to constantly clean it out . And you’re right about shark customer service. They are the worst.

In my opinion the words "repair" and "Shark" don't even belong in the same sentence together!
I have their older rocket model and wanted to replace the brushroll in the power head.. Fat chance! They would rather have you buy a brand new machine.

Cleaning the thing out is a nightmare. You literally need a dust mask/respirator, but is true with most bag less vacs. I'll never buy another. I'm thinking about replacing it with something like a Sebo Felix so that I can finally get rid of the shark

These people and there opinions. They don't like the vacuum but they take effort to post about it.
Don't call customer service. You will get voiding the warranty BS that comes from taking apart anything.
If you clean or repair a bagless vacuum it's going to have lots of dirt in it. The less maintenance you do the more it's going to have.
He is asking for help on repairing it. He isn't asking what you think or your experiences.

Duoclean X2 impressions

Well Les, I only paid 140 something shipped and everything looked new when it got here, plus so far no problems. It's not as strong as a corded vac but it can pick up a surprising amount of crap till the bin gets full or too many large pieces plug it up somewhere. Having two batteries is great so you can get a lot done as you just swap out if your not done with the job and I think in normal speed they last about 25 minutes each. yes you have to empty often if your picking up a lot of junk, yes the hair gets caught in the cyclone thing in the entry chamber but it's easy enough to pull off. It does great carpet or hard floors and just mostly gobbles everything up.
The crevice tool is pretty good and you can pull the main unit and use it hand held, even hook the power head right to it. The other attachments are OK but would be nice to have a proper furniture brush wand thing.
Every so often I pop open the upper cover on the power head and run the razor blade letter opener style cleaning tool along the groove in the middle of the brush to clean out all the hair and clean the little spikes on the front that are supposed to help things into the soft brush.
I'd say if Costco has a good sale go for it, or watch Amazon and Woot for great deals on the refurbed IonFlex duo clean x2 as I've seen the complete package even cheaper then I paid recently. That way if you don't like it your not out 250 to 300 for it. I also use a cheap robot and between them I hardly break out my Royals or moms old Compact anymore.

I want a cordless duoclean. In the bottom or top there is a little hair removal tool. If that helps at all.
I'm getting a cordless freestyle for my birthday. I know it's older but my wife bought it new in box. I'll hold off judgement on it. If it picks up small items it will be perfect.

Hose replacement

That part has nothing to do with it.

If you're lucky and this is one that can accept standard wire reinforced bulk hose and it isn't moulded into rubber at either end, here is the trick, remove all the screws separating the clamshell of the power head. Once you've in there you can pull the other end of the hose out of the bottom of the clamshell, then pull the broken hose out with pliers, it will come apart with each coil of the reinforcement coming out like a spiral.

Now for replacement, cut a section of bulk hose that is too long, better to have it under compression while it is out than tension when it is standing vertical. Thread it into the neck, then the lower plastic piece that is inside the head, check and recheck, might need to shorten a few times. Then get some contact cement(Dap, Pliobond, etc.) and glue it in place and let it dry for a while. Re-assemble.
