Shark UV 440-25

I just Purchased the Shark UV 440-25 and have owned it two month's and was going to take the bottom /head apart to do preventive maintenance and clean it up of dust gathered and the such. Well Shark put the whole vacuum together with Security screws and Shark Customer Service told me if I take it apart it voids the warranty. This is the biggest crock of bull I have ever heard from a vacuum company. What do you think of this , if you break a belt and it's in warranty you have to send the whole bottom section back for replacement. What do you think.

Any manufacturer will tell you the warranty is void if you open their product. That's pretty normal. Even if they don't tell you that, if you read the warranty's fine print, any warranty will say that.

That's why you don't ask permission to do stuff like that, you just do it. They may well keep a record that you mentioned it, and not honor the warranty in the future because of that. Like I said, this is normal practice, because, hey, let's face it, there are plenty of fools out there that'll try to take apart something, destroy it, and try to claim the warranty. The manufacturer is only trying to cover their ass.

Buy yourself a set of security bits and go to town.

MadMan is right - anything that involves taking any appliance or vacuum cleaner apart, they will say it voids the warranty regardless of what it is. It's just for liability coverage so they do not have to pay out $200+ just because Joe DIY monkeys around with it and breaks it.

Just get some security bits and unscrew it and do your cleanup on it like normal. Companies do not fix vacuums anymore either anyway, they just swap the part out with another part in their warehouse, which is likely going to be used and just sent through a washing machine.

I have a Shark with a dirty powerhead connector too, I have to take the head apart and polish the connector strip. Also a word of caution - Shark loves to hide screws under the wheels, or other parts, so if it seems like it doesn't want to come apart, do not force it, just look for where there might be a screw hidden. On the Navigator they hide them under the little roller wheels at the front and under a couple of stickers.

We desperately need to pass right to repair legislation. Our landfills are filling up with these cheap plasticrap vacuums at an alarming rate.

It’s not just that these machines aren’t meant to be taken apart, it’s the fact that so many of these vacuums weren’t made to last. They don’t intend things like Dysons, Sharks, Bissells, Hoovers... They don’t really offer a ton of parts for these newer things, as the manufacturer wants you to toss the machine and buy another. Although once I find a product to be disposable, I tend not to buy another of that brand. Maybe I’ve just worked on too many different machines, but these department store machines lardgely aren’t that great, they don’t clean all that well, and worst of all, they don’t last very long. I really don’t recommend these things!

People also need to TAKE CARE of their vacuums no matter what brand or what it is made of.My insurance agent has a Shark vacuum in their household and its lasted many years.I told him how to take care of it-empty after each use and cleaned-replace the filters.He has kids and dogs in his home.Neglected Kirbys,Lux,Rainbow and so on don't fare out much better!

It voids most vacuum cleaners warranty when customers take them apart.

I wouldn't bother personally with a shark since it's the disposable lighter or the vacuum industry. They're meant to be thrown away. I would just cut the hair off and use it sparingly.

Just yesterday, a woman with a Shark Rocket brought it in because the brush wasn't turning. Turned out it was a broken belt. The belt is a non-replaceable part and Shark doesn't sell a replacement. Why? The power head is $99 and both the belt and brush roller are NOT covered under warranty.

I have some security torx bits, and quickly removed the nozzle cover. To find the brush roll was made non-removable (or at least very difficult). Thanks to Steel City I found out the belt was the same as a Rug Rat from Vacuflo. I took apart a Kirby Heritage 1 turbo brush and used the belt (ordered another from Steel City). Had to take the entire power nozzle completely apart to get the new belt over the motor shaft. Then, getting it over the brush roller and getting the brush back in was a P.I.T.A. Took me over an hour to change a belt.

I know why Shark doesn't want people to take them apart. What a piece of crap. Tiny little power nozzle motor, tiny little wires. Junk!

I love them. The newer ones you can access belt and brush roll with a button. I remember a few Dyson belts. I found it super hard to put install. I love sharks because they pick up everything. It's not going to ruin anything. They serve a good purpose for wood/tile/composite/Stone etc. If you have low pile carpet there not bad. The rug our lab lays on isn't getting cleaned by a shark unless it's the 10 amp liftaways. There similar to lightweight vacuums. If the belt was off I'd Chuck it as there easy to find cheap. If I got a belt no biggie it's not vacuum I use every day.

You shouldn't HAVE to chuck a vacuum because of a broken belt. Shark has been crap and always will be. You can get a vacuum with the same level of performance for $50 from Wally World if you really wanted to.

The refurbished ionflex x2 duoclean cordless I picked up is awesome. It runs a long time per battery, picks up everything, and grooms the carpet nicely plus does great on my vynil floors as well. I paid way less than retail for it so hopefully it'll hold up a while but as long as I get 3 years or so out of it I will be getting my moneys worth. I have my Royals for deep cleaning and lasting for ever, and moms old Compact. You can pop open the clear plastic brush cover to clear clogs and clean the brush and cloth roller thing. I don't think it uses a belt so hopefully that will never be a issue.
I don't think anybody makes old school metal machines with easy to replace parts anymore. Everyone wants bagless and cheap now so that's what they sell.

Ionflex

I want an Ionflex duo clean and a zero m Apex navigator liftaway. The Apex would vacuum everything the Ionflex wouldn't.
I wonder if the riccar roam wireless is better than ion flex from shark. If anyone has both which is better. Thanks

I think with Sharks - as with many manufacturers of many things - it highly depends on the particular model what kind of quality you'll get.
