For those who have collections of scrubber/polishers and shampooers please post photos of them on this thread along with the brands, models/names and years of manufacture. Include in your photos any containers of cleaning agents and floor finishes (in the floor care industry "polish" is a verb meaning to bring to a luster--it is not a product; and since carnauba wax has largely given way to synthetic polymers this is the term that is generally more accurate and all-encompassing).

This may or may not be off the subject to some degree but this is a 1939 Holt hardwood floor re-surfacer. I purchased this a few years back at an estate sale for $35 and did a few minor repairs and sprucing up and we actually use it when we renovate rentals. It works great and is built like a tank. There is no cleaning supplies, just sand paper.

Glad you posted your Holt here, Brian. I hadn't thought of those machines, because I'm not that familiar with them. Does it have a large sanding drum or pad on the bottom? Please post another photo of that if you would. Also, one of the label showing the model and amps would be nice. That is a perfect fit for your rental business! What finish do you use, and how do you apply it?

Have all or most of the vacuum cleaner manufacturers made rotary machines or extractors?
I read on another post that Kirby's Rug Renovator and Miracle Head were discontinued around 1980. Were they replaced, or did Kirby drop the feature?

the rug renovator was replaced by the Kirby Shampoo System.... the Miracle Head is now the Floor Buffer /Carpet Fluffer.

Im glad you enjoyed the Holt sander, I will get more pics tomorrow as it is burried right now and I can't get to it. The sanding is done by an 11" drum. The front lifts up to access. As far as I can tell, the Pullman-Holt company made these but Information is very hard to find since these were only made for a year and very few remain. I think the Pullman joined with Holt somewhere. Of course Pullman-Holt still exists and make cleaning and floor care products. There is a date on the casting that says 1939 and the motor looks to be about that vintage. I'll get more pics and post them tomorrow. It weighs a ton. As far as what finish we use? We use clear polyurethane applied with cotton pads. It doesn't darken the wood grain and it is very heavy duty, perfect for a rental.

Here are a few more pics of the Holt floor sander. I took some of the motor plate, unit plate, and an overall look. I did find one pic on line of a Holt tractor that had the arrow through the name so now Im not sure if Pullman-Holt was the maker or if Holt (catapillar) was the maker. In any case it is very well made and I am very pleased to own it. "gottahaveahoove"; that is a fine looking floor! And it was so easy, right? Well, OK it is a lot of work but the results are very nice. I remember as a kid my mom had a twin brush floor scrubber/polisher. I don't know what brand it was but it was brown, and "scarry".

Talk about a labor of love. Those floors were almost black. I HATED putting that sandpaper on the drum. I had a hard time with it.
