Hi All I justsaw the new Kirby it looks much nicer in person Light brown with Green Brown and Gold Bag Tranie runs very smooth. All and all nice vacuum. Has ANY ONE bought one yet they want 1200 for it i will go back the lastweek in October and offer them between700.00@ 750.00 cash i bet i will come home with it. The last thing i need is another vacuum but life is short Doug

New Kirby

Hi Evan I have a friend who worked for kirby he said best time to get a new Kirby is the last week of the month as that is when all the sale figures go into the head office. We will see. Have you seen the new Kirby Doug

no but my grandparents just bought it. i got the kirby guy to sell it to them for 1100 and he vacuumed the entire house then shampood the main room and dusted everything. i was on the phone with them

whoa, kirbys are cheap over there. my friend spent £1,800 on his kirby sentria and he didn't even get the full package! a bit like UK filterqueens. a FQ could set you back £2,500 in the UK!

They are cheaper in the US because they are made over there, and its always a much better idea to wait a while before going onto Ebay and picking up a nearly new Kirby for a fraction of the price paid for it new. Kirbys are grossly overpriced when new as you are paying the massive commission to the salesman, who is not waged, but paid solely on commission only.
Give it a year and you will get a Sentria 2 on EBay for less than a third of the brand new price.
I got my Kirby G7E for just £50 on Ebay and all it needed was a repair to the mains cable. Great machines for deep down carpet cleaning, but not very practical for hose cleaning, and the bags and parts are very expensive direct from Kirby, so shop around for better deals on the bags and belts on EBay.

I just bought one....

Off of Ebay from a seller that claimed it to be NIB. I did a best offer for $800.00. I received it tonight and the vacuum itself looks brand new. We all know how to check the obvious areas to find dirt and I could not find any. I did find dirt on the belt lifter of the shampoer. I specifically asked the seller before I bought if it was brand new and he sent me an email assuring me it was. I did this all through Ebay. When I got the box there was a return address on it but no name. I looked the address up and it was from a lady in durham nc. I emailed the seller and asked why I would be receiving a NIB kirby from this woman and also told him the shampoer had been used. I then turned around and emailed Kirby World Headquarters and explained just what I did here. I also gave them the serial number of the vacuum which also was the same as what was on the box. I suggested this may have been sold by a Kirby Dist and then returned and then they had someone sell it for brand new on ebay. I have to tell you, I checked the fan, the brush roll for belt marks, I sprayed canned air in the exhaust port and no dirt...

However it did concern me that this came from an individual. I noticed the seller is also selling one again but it is not located in Durham NC. I bought it for $800.00 and $60.00 Shipping. The sellar has not responded yet. I did sanitize the shampooer and it now looks new.

Now I do like it very much, but I want to make sure I did not buy something stolen and that is why I sent my Ebay responses to Kirby and asked them to check the serial number. I gave them my work and home number. We will see.

Update,

I just heard from the sellar and he said that it was sent by an employee of his. He offered me a new shampooer or a $50.00 refund. I had already sanitized it so I explained that I just wanted to make sure the machine was new and that this did not belong to someone else. His feedback was 100 percent since 2007, but he has only sold 7 items in the last few months. I did not tell him I was checking with Kirby.

I called and talked to Monica and she suggested that I call Kirby Center of Durham to clear up any questions I may have. I did call and talked to the person on the phone and she let me talk to a gentleman, I am assuming the owner/manager. I explained that Kirby told me the Sentria 2 that I purchased off of Ebay was registered to them. He took my phone number for work since I had to leave and told me he would check into it and get back to me. I have a direct line and he never contacted me.....I checked the other listing the seller had for another Kirby NIB Sentria and it was cancelled saying it was no longer available.

This tells me they were having one of the employees or someone else sell these on Ebay even though that is against Kirby rules. If that was not the case he would have instructed me to get my money back from Ebay protection and send them the vacuum in order for him to get it back.

What do the rest of you think?

What I am assuming is happening

The distributor is basically "BOJACKING" his own machines to move them, by using maybe an employee or family to sell through their home on ebay. This way he moves the merchandise and doesn't have to pay a dealer to go DTD. It is, however, a violation of Kirby's sales policy.

So you outed the distributor to Kirby, who really doesn't care because the machine moved, so just ask the distributor to sign the original papers so you are eligible for the factory warranty and have him report it to SF as properly sold. This may work, or since he was outed may end up biting you in the patoot. Ask him to switch machines, Possibly demo's with you so you have another serial number and then get him to file it for you.

Thanks for the reply. I knew when I bought off of Ebay that I would not get the warranty, but I did think that this was probably from a distributor that went out of business and sold some to a pawn shop or some such. The address is what got me to wondering and my writing to Kirby. I was to say the least shocked that it was listed in Kirbys records as his stock.

I'm like you about him selling bojack. I am not worried about the warranty and know that I can always send it in for a rebuild. At this point, with him not contacting me back, I will just keep this machine as I would not trust him to not do something to another machine he would send me. I will let Kirby know that I did contact him and he did not follow up with me, so therefore I feel that I did all that was necessary. The ball was in his court and unless they tell me different, I am keeping the machine.

How would he bite me when I gave him every chance to get this corrected? They could refund my money and I could send it back to him or if it was really stolen, I could use Ebay buyer protection and send them the machine to return to him.

I haven't found any....

I have been looking also, but only found the one you did. The DVD that comes with the unit has been cut way back and procedures have also changed such as how to adjust the power nozzle. I believe the total time for the DVD is like 28 minutes. While I understand that most people probably won't watch it anyway, to me thay did not go into enough detail if this was someone's first Kirby.

I can understand the DVD cut back as it seems everything is being cut back these days. I'm guessing that more people watch the video than thought and a 30 min is pretty easy to stomach than actually reading the manual. It is sad still that all that good visual info got chopped but still a large chunk of people rather watch a sitcoms length of how-to rather than curl up reading with an instruction manual.

DVD vs, manual

I had my Sentria for four years before I stumbled on the cord lock feature in the manual. Could not figure what Kirby was thinking with that cord situation. Once I found the cord lock intructions, I now think they did great. For now I check and recheck the manual, Never know what you might miss.
