Due to a personal issue i am selling off my entire collection.
I have learned a lot from you all!
(Especially Chicago Mike!)

I listed the entire collection first so that maybe one of us can buy the whole thing! Instead of me breaking it apart and selling it one at a time.

Thanks!

Larry

A huge challenge that collectors face is disposing of collections. Over the years I've seen quite a few collectors (or their survivors) trying to sell off their collection as one large lot. It has never been successful, not even with such a notable collector as Stan Kann. His collection was not sold intact after he died, although one person did buy many of the machines.

While it's a lot more work, obviously, the only feasible way to liquidate one's collection is to sell machines individually.

Nonetheless, good luck with your auction and sorry to know you're facing what must be a difficult life-situation.

Agreed

In the long run it may be worth the effort of doing individual sales, you could easily get more money than what you're asking by doing that. But what's good for one isn't always good for another, life happens and presents challenges so what ever works best for you.

Once your auction ends and you decide to piece it out, I would be interested in the 508 and 505 for sure, although it seems someone else here already wants the 505.  Do let me know if I can buy that off of you!

Im sorry.

You have an impressive collection. I'm sorry you have to sell it. I was thinking about what would become of my collection if something happened to me or I just couldn't keep it. My collection is modest compared to what most of you have and most of mine is kitchen appliances but the thought of them ending up in the trash does not sit well with me. I told my boyfriend if something happens to pull up this web site and find someone to give it to. Most people don't like old stuff but I think these items are beautiful and unique and need to be preserved.

Unfortunately, collections get broken up all the time.

Whether it is vacuums, art, cars, coins, stamps, museum collections, collectibles, etc.

It is just the way it goes.

Celebrities have their own crazy collections as well, there is even a book on them:

What celebrities collect, by Michelle Karl

Best thing is to split it up.

I am 14 and autistic and I have been wanting a 505 for a very long time. I don't care which 505 you sell to me but please consider selling one to me. I don't have a lot of money so if you sell it could you give a fair price please?

Wishing you very good luck with the 505 auction. Those machines, as rare as they are, should bring a small fortune. I'm going to see how much yours goes for before listing mine. Hoping you get more than $500 for it, because a 505 in really good original condition should easily bring that.

Yes, I have a very nice 505 sitting next to the model 1C in the Museum. I was thinking of selling it, in order to add a 516 in its place, as that was the next real 'change' in the Kirby. When Larry's auction ends, I will put mine up for sale.

I fear that it will be expensive, I really want one really badly but my parents won't let me pay over $100. I have been searching for one for most of my time collecting vacuums. A 505 would make me feel like a more complete vacuum collector.

Are you really 15 Thomas?

Do you think it's a good guideline on the part of your parents to restrict money spent on frivolous collectibles?

I'm an adult, at least in theory, and I won't allow myself to spend over a certain dollar amount for a vacuum.  There have been times when I saw a vacuum and I was like, "Oh, I would love that. $500 !   Nope, not going to happen at that price."

$500 can buy a LOT of vacs on my list.  I would rather have several vacs on my list than just ONE of the items on my list because,  I've HAD that expensive item.  Yes, I know what it's like to have a brand new 1986 Hoover Dimension 1000 that one spent upwards of $500 on.  Or a Brand New 1993 Electrolux Ultralux Classic ($689).    ..... and frankly, they can quickly lose your interest OR become Favorites,  just as fast as a $20 vacuum can.
