Sebo X4 PET aka my baby!

I originally started off with a Felix Pet but found it didn't meet my needs as much as the X4 would of so I returned it and bought the X4 Pet instead. Personal preference really...

I like to keep the Sebo looking its best because I know that it should last years and years, and in say 5 years time when it is still performing like new I'd like it to look half decent too!

I think the saying is 'Used, not abused'.

Personal preference it certainly is, one of the reasons I choose the Felix over the X Series 6 years ago is I liked the fact you can turn the brush bar off on the Felix and it has variable power.

I don't blame you for wanting to keep it looking it's best, thats how things last longer and still look great in years to come.

The main reason me and the Felix didn't get along was that at the time I had a VERY deep pile rug in my bedroom that covered 90% of the floor. The height adjuster on the Felix wouldn't go high enough and as soon as the machine came into contact with the rug the brush protection would trip and cut the brush off.
I'd have to go round on my hands and knees with the hose to get the rug reasonably clean. The X machine seemed to adjust that little bit higher and just to say managed to cope. Or maybe the brush protection isn't as sensitive on the X machines?

The rug is long gone now... was sick of picking bits of sock fluff out of it so now just have the wood flooring by itself.

I can see why you prefer the X over the Felix cleaning the rug with the hose couldn't have been much fun! I would say the X series auto height adjustment lifts higher than the Felix plus it's variable to. You can tell this when the X is in the upright position it lifts up quite high.

I'm not sure if the X brush bar protection is less sensitive than the Felix!

Looking at your pictures and when I've seen an X series in person I like how thin the made body is from the sides. You can see why they can lie flat and go under furniture with ease!

Hope the metal Sebo floor shoe didn't scratch your hard floors-best to use the hard floor nozzle setup you have shown. And the hard floor surface isn't good for the roller brush.I feel the Sebo X series vacuums are the best clean air machines out there-they do work!

Well, Miss. Raw, I wouldn't want to be predictable, would I? ;)

Gotta say Matt, that is one classy looking Sebo. I do love the black and silver colour scheme. It's odd that it didn't come with a black dusting brush.

I have noticed that the new X4 Pet has a black hose, but still comes with the silver extension hose. That would annoy the hell out of me lol.

Black hose

Are you sure about the black hose? If you're right Sebo mustn't be able to make their minds up!

When the X4 Pet was originally launched it had a black hose with the whiteish-grey extension hose supplied - this is why in all the 'stock' photos you find on the net the machine has the black hose. Also in the Sebo X series brochure the machine is also shown with a black hose.

That's why when older X4 pets pop up on e-bay they tend to have the black hose (theres one on there now - black hose with light grey stair hose).

I was under the impression that Sebo switched to a 'generic colour' silver hose when they started installing them on their other model X machines and also the Felix range. Similar to how Dyson stopped making multi coloured parts - its much easier / cheaper to supply one part in one colour rather than one part in multiple colours.

HHMMMM interesting! Sebo must just be swapping bits about on the Pet version then because I've seen ones a lot older than mine with black hoses too.

They should just stick with the silver, and if they made the wand grey like on the other X machines and also the crevice and stair tools grey then at least that way all the attachments would be one uniform colour.

Lovely photos. Im beginning to like the carpet you have, which is weird as I don't tend to like patterned carpet.

I have marble tiles and I have vinyl. My old X has run over both several times - no damage - and tile is a lot more precious than many a hard floor and expensive to replace should it crack. Oh yes - that's another part on the SEBO you can buy to replace in time. Everything on the X series is replaceable.

I guess the reason SEBO haven't made a black extension hose yet is simply because the X4 Pet is barely 10 years old model wise. It took them an age to get the silver hose out as a different colour to match what most of the Felix range and the rest of SEBO's vacuums have such as the K and D series that both have silver hoses. Don't forget the red Euronics model also "should have" the light grey hose as well as the Excel John Lewis version and Euronics Pro version, though SEBO change their minds as per the YEARS of the models that go on sale.

I no longer have the dark grey extension hose as I sold it to my mum's best friend who adores my X4. I still have the original cream/grey hose from moons ago - to be honest I don't really mind the colour.

As you will see from my photo, my X1 Automatic has a black hose - I ordered it especially from SEBO just as a way of making my vacuum unique. It also has a more modern hose clip on the side as opposed to the older grey style ring clip. I also have the original brush "wall brush" which in other countries sells as the X Parquet floor tool - I have used that from time to time before I bought my D2 Total.

Have to say though, end of the day although I have a Felix, I still prefer the X over it. True, there's no brush roll stop and no variable power but the X1A is quieter and nimble enough not to require it.

Can anyone spot how I've made my Felix look more unique?

Correct Chris! It has no outer filter cover either, just the one below. My Ice blue filter got ripped by accident a couple of months ago and well, just tore it off. Can't decide on the next filter cover to get. Thats the beauty of the Felix - you can mix n match!

That would really bug me. I'm the complete opposite and I like all the parts of be correct. There's nothing worse than stumbling across a lovely old cleaner on eBay with the wrong cable or bag and I guess I'm the same with the modern ones too lol.

I picked up the additional accessories box for my X1.1 this week. It has the extension hose, extension tube, large dusting brush, flat upholstery nozzle, wall and floor brush and the Sebo tote bag. All the tools are silver/grey and match my machine. There's something so retro about bringing out a box of tools when you're doing a big clean.

Nice ensemble!

Today I used my Felix after saying that the X1Auto is better - both are as good as each other. I forgot how easy the Felix is to use even if it is heavier to push due to the manual height adjustment. What wins it over the Hoover Slalom which is more of an equivalent design despite a much longer hose on board, is that it is far simpler to push, use and go around corners with and ironically when auto adjustment on conventional uprights is supposed to be lighter, it is definitely not the case where the Slalom is concerned...

I wonder what the Globe is like but I really don't want to buy another "bagless Hoover" vacuum ever again.

Regarding the X machines on hard flooring.

I personally don't think they are completely suitable due to the fact the machine lowers itself to the point that the base is scraping along the floor... hence all the scuff marks on the base of mine.

Our kitchen floor is from the Karndean Opus range and is classed as 'premium flooring', it cost around £1400 IIRC and the Sebo has left a lovely long scratch on it from being used in the normal upright mode.

A piece of grit was trapped between the flooring and the cleaner head and was dragged along with the weight of the cleaner head on top of it.

Hence the dedicated hard floor tool.

The only saving grace is that firstly the scratch is under the table and due to the texture of the floor it isn't too noticeable. It's also only really a 'surface scratch'... You only notice it if you're actually looking for it. The tiles are all individual too so if in the future we move the table and the scratch becomes more of an issue we can have the damaged tiles (3 in total) replaced.

This is the flooring in question...

I also agree with Chris regarding keeping machine looking original... I'm the same with everything. Hence the mix of grey and black tools on mine is somewhat displeasing.

For me its genuine parts all the way and preferably in the correct colour / style.

My biggest pet hate is alloy wheels on cars... when people buy a poverty trim level that didn't come with alloys and then they put a set of chavvy Halfords RipSpeed ones on thinking it looks good. In reality what they have is sh#t wheels on a sh#t car!
