Sebo X1 brushroll issues

Having some trouble with my X1's. just been playing with my brown X1. i've put a brand new brushroll in it and it seemed to be skimming the top of the carpet and not doing much. I put the old brushroll back in and it seems to sit a lot lower and cleans really well, really brings the pile up nice.

I repeated it with my Stealth 1 which also has a new brushroll in, its cleans ok but seems to do a much better job with the old brushroll in. Is there something I need to adjust or something to make the new brushroll work properly? it just seems to do a much better job with the old one.

I think your brushroll is skimming the top of the carpet because that's what Sebos with automatic height adjustment do. I have only ever owned brand new Sebos and all the automatic X models and the Ensign Stealth I owned never seemed to deep clean due to the over sensitive height adjustment.

My Professional G model that I received this week doesn't have this skimming effect and cleans really well because it has a manual height control so you can decide what height to set the cleaning head. I believe that the softer brush roll you can get allows the head to adjust slightly lower than the harder brush which may give a better grooming action, but Sebo say that this brush has a shorter life than the hard version.

Sorry, Senso but given that the X1 and Stealth use both the auto sensor head, it's clearly the brush roll at fault and not the sensor. Sometimes the side bits visible silver rings need screwing in. If you follow what it says on the arrows of each side of the brush head, it should work. If it still refuses to go deeper, check that the new brush roll isn't bent or out of alignment.

Automatic height sensor adjust to compensate brushroll wear?
So you may be finding its digging deeper into the carpet because the head itself is lower to the ground to compensate for the brushroll wear of the old one. Where as the new brushroll with longer bristles is touching the carpet quicker with the head higher.
I think if you even look at the x4 demo video on youtube it talks about how it adjusts itself to compensate for brushroll wear!
I may be wrong, just thought I would speak then keep quiet!

Yeh I think you could be right about that, soon as i went onto hard floors with the old brushroll, the brushroll error light started flashing. The old one is a very old black one and seems to be a bit stiffer than the newer ones too. think its just one of those things. still seems to clean well regardless

Yes Jake, you're absolutely right - the Sebo system does adjust to compensate for brush wear - so that carpets don't get damaged and that the motor belt doesn't over stretch trying to compensate as the brush roll receives resistance from the carpet tread. However it doesn't automatically mean that the sensor adjusts completely to allow the brush roll to get the carpet right since there are so many different types of carpet, different textures, different heights and then also the concern of if the carpet fitted is actually level.


 


I am however now, totally confused. Ryan - you say that the new brush roll isn't going as low as the old, but the old brush is indicating it needs to be changed on hard flooring confirmed by the Sebo panel? It is clearly two issues here if the old brush is also indicating it needs to be replaced if it is not working properly on hard floors due to the hard bristles now been worn down. 


 


Sometimes a new brush roll just needs a run in time before it properly adjusts with the Sensor working.


 


As for the delicate soft brush roller - well I got one the year we had the dreaded wool carpets fitted. It was recommended at the time but to be honest I'm not a fan of it at all. The softer bristles do indeed go lower into the carpet but with that it also means the weight of the machine isn't as light to push when it automatically adjusts. It is good on hard floor though, naturally the softer bristles means dust gets picked up and no damage can be done - but on normal carpet, dust doesn't seem to be picked up in an instant compared to the standard blue bristle /factory fit white bristle brush rollers.

When I first got my Sebo X4 I found it needed time to "cut in"; after about 5 uses you could tell the difference. That might be because the bristles where being squashed and spread apart as it got use to that horrible flattend carpet we use to have!

well think i've cured my brushroll issues, both the brown X1 and Ensign 300 needed new sensors, they both work fine now.

I think with the X1's sometimes it a case of swapping bits like the sensor and servo, until it works properly. Trial and error I spose.
