Hi Vacuumlanders,
I am considering getting my first decent bagged vacuum. we have been using Dyson for several years on our thin pile carpets. We are going to get thick wall to wall plush soon so need a good vacuum and are considering Sebo, of course we will still keep Dysons for daily vacuuming etc
so I have a few questions if you do not mind, Thanks.
1) I see some youtube videos, they claim to be deep cleaners but are the bristles soft? they look like it on the X4 vacs
2) Which Sebo's actually have good stiff bristles?
which one cleans the best?
3)Tell me about your Sebo? :)
Thank you all

I have a Sebo X4 Extra and a Hoover TP2. The X4 is a much better made vac, and has the electronic control system that adjusts the head height to the optimum level to make pushing it around very easy. Its also slightly heavier than the TP2 and has the benefit that the cable is longer and the brush is removeable easier than the TP2. There are different brushrolls available for the X4 from Sebo website, and these have differing stiffness of the brushes. The standard hose on the X4 is short, but the X4 Extra gives you an extension hose which will do up the stairs to the top. The Sebo is also quieter in use and has more power than the TP2. It has well priced bags at about a tenner for 10 5093ER type I think without looking. The computer also shuts down the motor if it detects a blockage or full bag. It also shuts down the motor if the brushroll gets jammed, as both the X4 and the TP2 have non-stoppable brushrolls (but the Felix does allow you to turn off the brushroll). The X4 does however use a lifetime toothed belt system so no worry about belt stretch like on the TP2.

I'd go with the X4 any day over the TP2.

The X1 is the predecessor to the X4 and X1.1 and is the older style launched 20 odd years ago, but still looks similar.

The X4 and X1.1 are very similar, just the difference in motor power and colours. I'd say for your family it might make a good buy, as its pretty much foolproof, but its not indestructible though, and prices are high, even for second hand ones.

There is a nice X1.1 going here in Stoke - the seller, Mr Ali has been trying to sell this for a while now, and he has done some work on it too:

I own a sebo felix and used a x4

both were good I prefer the felix though, the X series would be an excellent choice for your home it will take some getting used to I recommend the X4 extra as it comes with a extra length hose, or you could try the X1 it is from the 90s but is basically the same thing plus they are cheaper to buy

Steve: Thank you for he brief explanation of the X4. I am now convinced it will be a good buy but I wasn't expecting it to be heavy or not indestructible. It should be an OK vacuum, I guess I will use the Dysons for stair cleaning, hard floors, large area rugs etc. I was considering either an ensign SM2 whick looks like a Sebo but got a larger head. Thank you, I really appreciate it.
Michael: Wow! what a coincidence lol as I was watching that X1 :P I will try to get a felix one day hopefully

I feel so stupid, there was a mint Sebo X4 in red for £5 working at the carboot sale and I never got it, it was just standing there looking pretty and waiting to be bought, I wonder why it was that cheap

The X4 is 7.4Kg so its not exactly heavy, but nevertheless its not a light vac either. The Felix is not that much lighter at 6.8Kg despite looking a lightweight vac. Bear in mind the Vax Mach Air is 5Kg, and the Miele S7 is nearly 10Kg, so the Sebo is somewhere in between.

The X4 and X1.1 were not designed to clean hard floors, so if you have more hard floor than carpet then the Felix would be a better bet, as it has a twin motor design where the brush can be turned off. The computer on the X4 will just try to lower the head on a hard floor till it senses that the brushroll has contacted the floor, which is not ideal.

The commercial version (The BS36 / BS46) has a manual head adjustment and L shaped head but although it has a separate brush motor the brush cannot be turned off for hard floors and automatically comes on when the vacuum is reclined.

It's gotta be an X series!

If you want a good looking Sebo that does a great Job then get an X1.1 or an X4. However, if you want versatility, then I'd go for the Sebo Felix with the hard floor nozzle you can buy for it. Also, it has a very good swivel neck that manoeuvres really well to get into tight spots.

The Felix also comes with as standard a power head, this can be turned on or off depending on your floor type.

Give a Sebo a go Tayyab, you'll like it! :)

Thanks Guys :D I want an X Series, if I am happy, Sebo would be in my good books, if I hate it (which I will doubt) then I would never trust it

WELL, where do I begin.

I've had Sebo vacuums now for 6 years. Here is a list of features that I like:

- the brushroll on the Sebo is very dense and stiff, so it really grooms the carpet pile and gets into the fibres
- the top fill bag means you can REALLY cram it full before it needs changing and because the S class filter runs the length of the bag chamber up the side of the bag, suction loss is minimal as the bag fills.
- I've found the computer control height adjustment works brilliantly and means that the vacuum, though quite large and heavy to lift, is a breeze to use.
- the machine can be completely dismantled and every part is accessible, so if the unit should become blocked for whatever reason, it's VERY easy to clear
- Sebo guarantee the belt for the life of the machine - you should never have to buy a replacement belt
- The X range CAN be used on any floortype, without having to switch the brushroll off. I use mine on the laminate all the time, but if you have a mixture of different floortypes, the Felix is far more versatile for that
- All parts are easily accessible and replaceable, should anything need it
- the cleaner is VERY solid and well built
- the integral quick draw wand is great for getting into corners and around the edges of the carpet, without actually have to turn the machine off or even put it upright. It's very quick to do so.
- the cleaner vacuums flat to the floor so you can get under furniture and in tight spaces VERY easily
- at only 1150w or 1300w, the cleaner doesn't heat up the room like a lot of cheaper, higher wattage machines.
- the cord is long enough to abseil down. I can vacuum my whole house without changing plug sockets

A few things I don't like:

- the hose is short and the cleaner has a habbit of falling over unless you keep 1 hand on the main handle. This does not effect performance and is easily resolved by using the extension hose
- The X1.1 does not come with a dusting brush. Again, this is resolved by either buying the extra part or getting the X4 Extra which includes the dusting brush
- The Automatic X has no brush controls to switch the brushroll off, if needed
- The Felix has quite small bags
- I'm not keen on the exhaust filter situation on the Felix

Hope this helps, Tayyab. As much as Sebo are my favourite, I know everyone has differing opinions. Maybe you should try one out in John Lewis or Currys before you decide you want one, then look online for the best price? Even if you don't switch the cleaner on, it will still give you a good idea of the build quality, weight and comfort of the machine and you can also see for yourself about the brushroll.

Chris

And finally, here is my Sebo. The Automatic X1.1 Euronics Exclusive. I had an X4 before this, which I sold and replaced with a Felix, which I then sold and replaced with the X1.1 (don't ask!), so I've had Sebo vacuums in daily use since 2007. This one is nearly 3 years old now and has been in daily use ever since. It's only ever had 4 bag replacements in it's life (and I have a cat!). I absolutely love it - I honestly couldn't bring myself to part with Sebo cleaners.

Ok, one last post I promise...

Here are 2 video's I made showing a the agitation of a Dyson DC04 and the agitation of the Sebo x1.1. I'm not intending to slag off Dyson in anyway here - I actually think they're the best bagless cleaner on the market. But use your head, which one of these is going to clean a carpet more effectively? It ain't rocket science...

Also, see link for a very reasonably priced X4 Extra

WOW Chris, that made me feel amazed, it sounds like a very reliable vacuum! I want one now, I hope to get one Thank you so much, I am now speechless, sorry but what a vacuum cleaner! I intend to get the Sebo X series as my next vacuum
Cheers! all of you :)

No probs, Tayyab. I would still recommend trying one out before you buy though. Even just go and have a look at one in Currys, Euronics of John Lewis and get a feel for them. That way, you know you won't be disappointed. I'd used a few Sebo's before I bought mine, so I knew I wanted one.

Chris from Go vacuums is a hottie!

He certainly is!!! So is that guy in that Espares video, who showed you how to change a Henry bag...He was wearing a lovely tight cycling top with a nice big watch. :D
