The white X1...

That white X1 was the first Sebo I ever got to use. The parents of Jamie, a friend I went to school with, had a working farm. They had 4 dogs that were constantly in and out of the house. The family were big on hygeine, especially in the kitchen, but the carpets were always covered (and I mean COVERED)in dog hairs. They had a Hoover Turbopower U2798 and a Vax Powa 4000. In 1999, they replaced the Hoover with the white X1 pictured above.

I remember it being delivered. I'd managed to pester Lesley, Jamie's mother, into letting me come and see it after school. When I got to the house, the box had been opened, but the cleaner was still inside. I got to watch Tim, Jamie's Dad, put it together. Lesley tried it out first and vacuumed the large living room rug with it (they had solid wood in the living room with a big oriental style rug in the middle). I got to use it on the hallway. And so began my love of Sebo's.

14 years on, it's still in daily use.

Oh, by the way - I will be another to recommend the Sebo X4, I sold mine to my old Primary School & they can't get enough of it, they absolutely love it! So here's another YES to the Sebo. I wasn't that keen on it myself though, even though it managed to get Ground Coffee out of a Deep Pile Cream rug, which nothing else could do.

My first Sebo was a new X4 extra. Once the novelty wore off I sold it on eBay - this was when I got bored of a machine after a week or two and was changing them CONSTANTLY.

A little while later I bought a new X1.1. Performance wise there was no difference between that and the higher power X4 HOWEVER I did miss the extension hose and dusting brush.

Last year I bought a new Sebo Felix Pet. It was a great machine however I decided I preferred an X machine after a day or two. So, I returned it and exchanged it for an X4 Pet.

I've since settled down on the vacuum front.

I've had the X4 Pet from new - it will be a year old in about a weeks time!
I've got a Numatic Henry that I bought new about 8 months ago and also a DC41 Animal Complete that I bought new about 6 months ago.

The Henry is great, especially with the airo brush, however I only really use it for odd jobs as I prefer an upright. I've not even filled a bag with it yet.

The Dyson is good BUT the build quality is poor and it seems to be loosing performance - even though the filters are washed at the correct intervals. It has also started smelling VERY musty, leading me to believe there is a build up of cr#p inside the cyclones, hence the performance not being as good as when new.

And the Sebo...
Well like I say it is pretty much a year old now.
It's had lots of use and has seen me through various DIY jobs.
I've filled about 5 bags with it so far and it never smells musty due to it having the pet carbon filter inside.

We have various floor coverings in our house. There is walnut style wood flooring, plush wool carpets and Karndean slate style flooring in the kitchen and dining room.

The Sebo adjusts to and cleans every surface perfectly - even the hard floors.

I've not had an upright that grooms the carpets better either.

The exterior of the Sebo is also nice and simple meaning it is really easy to wipe over and keep looking like new.

Although mine has been used it hasn't been abused and it still looks and works like brand new.
If you can afford it go for a new Sebo rather than used, just so you can be sure you're not buying an abused machine that needs lots of new parts.
Over the years I've seen some horrifically abused Sebo X machines, sometimes rebadged under another name but the same machines either way and they just keep soldiering on.

One that comes to mind was being used in a college. It was an Ensign machine the same as an X1 and boy did it look sorry for itself.
Suction was MINIMAL as the bag was always crammed and the filters were CAKED in crud. I don't think the filter in the bag housing had ever been changed.

The auto height was broken and jammed on the lowest setting and I have a feeling this was due to the electronic controls being somehow over ridden as the bag full and brush warning lights didn't work either - probably to stop the machine turning itself off when the bag was getting full.
This machine went on working in this condition for at least two years after I first become aware of it, being used day in day out in a commercial environment.

They really are great machines and should give many years of trouble free service if maintained correctly.

Bags and filters are reasonably priced too.

A service box consisting of 10 bags and a complete set of filters is less than £20 - they're big bags and in a domestic environment a bag should easily last 2 - 3 months - unless you have 20,000 hairy dogs!

Good experience shared. I like the X4 colour scheme on the pet model but overall though the X1.1 is a good upright too, the white ones are better than all the other colours as they don't tend to show scrapes etc! My old blue and black X1.1 couldn't hide scrapes all the time from general use, especially at the sides. Its the same with my K3 Premium. Great for hiding scrapes because of its white colour. I had a light blue K1 Komfort for many years before the Premium model and though robust, the colour ones apart from white show up the scrapes from general use. This is where the X1 Automatic in white or grey is slightly better.

Interesting about the LED panel you refer to on the college upright. I know there is a simple pull out microchip lead when the hood is taken off that effectively cuts the panel off, but I have never tried it for fear of breaking the sensor wheel when switched on.
