Had a friend that found a new in box Super J. It looks like it was maybe used once or twice so I dont know if it qualifies for new in box or not, but judging by the wheels and stuff I would say it wasnt used very much at all. It looks very similar to my 50th Jubilee you can see in the pic on its side.

Beautiful!

You will notice more power with the Super J...they upgraded the motor from the previous Jubilee IIRC. Put them side by side..I think the later model is slightly longer..I may be wrong but I remember it being so.

The Golden Jubilee was essentially a 1205 with a somewhat more gaudy paint job. Hey, it was the mid '70s, after all. The Super J ushered in the next generation of Electrolux canister--more powerful motor and the body is about an inch longer. The Olympia One and Silverado were direct descendants of the Super J with mainly cosmetic modifications.

Very nice find. This Super J was the last run of Super J's. built in 1978 The differences are that the last run came with a 5 year motor warranty because the earlier Super J's were prone to have bad armatures. Also, the inside of the bag door is powder coated gold instead of the usual cast aluminum color, the gold colored hose was also on the last of the Super J's as was the new style sheath, with the cut out in the front to remove the lower wand without disassembling the sheath from the wand. Shortly after his model was released the first generation of Olympia One's came out in 1979, they were essentially the same machine but painted ginger brown and the power nozzle was no longer polished it was painted ginger brown also.

Interesting, I have six Super J's, four of them have the cast aluminium door bag panel and two of them are powder coated gold. I understand they were equipped with the same motor but the last ones were sod with a 5 year warranty, right ?

Is there anything else you can tell by the serial numbers ?

Super J

NICE Super J!
Good information above. Also when motor warranty was changed from 2 to 5 years screws under blower door went from standard to Phillips and paint on lettering of rubber strips on side became black.Branches were sent '5 year' labels to put on top of any SJs in stock that didn't have one.
Power Nozzle-First SJs may have had PN-2,later PN 4.All with polished top.

"--armature problem--"

That started with vibration from the longer, more powerful Super J motor. This was fixed with 4 bars cast in motor housing over the commutator that you would see in later Olympia & Silverado motors.
Possible and easily fixed problems on 1205 could include plastic carry handle breaking, bad connection between cordwinder and motor terminals and metal sleeve for carbon brushes sliding toward commutator(later fixed with a bump that fit notch in plastic holder to prevent movement).

Super J’s were indeed better versions of the Golden Jubilee, a more powerful motor making them longer than the Golden Jubilee. An Electrolux told me the easiest way to tell the difference is look at the back end of the top panel, if it is sloped at a 45 degree angle it’s the Super J, if it’s more upright it’s the Golden Jubilee. But either way, both should be marked.
