You should invest in a wand scanner that way you are not crushing and damaging the spine of the manuals, they are very brittle. Higher DPI scans and cropping will also benefit too for a much higher resolution.

Also, $100 in 1954 would be $1,134.23 today! It's pretty incredible how consistently Kirby has kept their price still to this day.
