Got this and a newer vac today , see newer vacs siemens

Its a sanyo mamma acel
without hoses , I am soon to be the proud owner of the largest collection of vacuums without HOSES!!!!

Has any one else seen these ?

I was going to say a silly thing "Looks like it's using a BS546 round pin plug, so must be old", then realised you're in SA, where I think that's still the current standard!!!

Looks like it could be a Japanese vac, I've not seen one before, that's for sure... :&#92

Hi Yes Sanyo is Japanese.

and yes we have the 3 pin plug in SA much like the UK plug but with round prongs.
we also have two pin plugs aswell

Yeah, the plugs you guys have are our old standard (BS546) which used two & three pin plugs, with the plugs being 2Amp, 5Amp and 15Amp (the 2-pins were 2 and 5Amp only), one of the leftovers from when the british empire existed...

I still use round pin plugs actually, just for use with old stuff so it looks correct for it's age...

We get so many dysons that people have brought back from the uk especially SA guys who have gone thier to work for a bit , they fit adaptors instead of changing the plug and come to us when the vac stoped working, all thats wrong is the fuse in the plug has poped

If the fuses were what Dyson fitted, then they obviously under estimated the load their motors put onto the fuses...

I can't understand why we went for the fuse-in-the-plug ring main thing in the first place, originally it was to save on copper after WWII, cos the BS546 radial wiring needed lots of wires as more people were wired to the grid and wanted multiple sockets in their homes, but these days the ring main just looks old hat, we're about the only country in the world that does it (well, apart from the ones that the empire held onto and got the BS1363 plug & socket wiring), just seems daft really... :&#92

That Sanyo canister vac was also sold in North America in the late 1960's and early 1970's. In Canada, we had a version that had a simulated woodgrain applique instead of the blue housing treatment. Tools stored in the compartment on top. Very quiet and powerful. Subsequent Sanyo canisters in Canada featured a bagless "dust cassette" that you emptied in combination with a cloth bag downwind closer to the motor. It also featured an on-off switch on the handle of the electrified hose.

Nice - Those are different from the Canadian one again. Ours had a square step on switch on top (In the black area in the pic). What did the blue one have for a switch?

It has a switch on the hose, and a back up ( how Japanese) in the tool conpartment
