Hi there. Quick Sanitaire question for y’all: does the SC679J have a shallower fan chamber than those on the 7 amp models? I’m 99% sure that the fan on the 679 is shallower, but I’m not sure about the chamber.

Thanks.

No

The depth of all the sanitairre models are the same.
I asked if a 8.5 amp motor would fit in my sanitaire 667 blue line. It will fit the bigger motor. It will also fit the 5 amp motor. I imagine armature and carbon brushes that are built into motor are different. They don't affect the depth of the motor.
If you want to double check me look up your sanitairre and see what fan it takes. Then check the fan of desired motor.
That's what sanitairre does is make parts replaceable interchangeable and cheap.

The shorter fan is for the motors (like the one the SC679 comes with) that have brushes on the bottom closest to the fan. The motor bearing plate has to be thicker, so the fan has to be shorter as a result.

There isn't a dimensional difference in the bases (in the fan chamber/motor mounting area) between models, so you can indeed take the larger 7 amp "pancake" motor with the taller fan and use it in place of the original motor. You just can't take a taller fan and put it on the smaller motor.

Hey

If you look at a sanitairre. Notice all height width e depths. There the same for quite a while. You can say bigger bearing plate etc. The spindle may be slightly bigger or smaller.
If a spindle is a concern it shouldn't be. Same belt, brush roll same dimensions.
It will fit you may have to spend. Couple dollars for a new spindle.
