Sorry for the late reply, I'm not sure if you've figured it out yet or not but essentially furniture guards come in two different sizes 12 and 16 inch it looks like the one you have here is 12 inch so it is the correct one now to install it you want to flip the machine over and release the handle so the hood lies flat on the floor then along the sides of the vacuum base you should see a groove or a channel that diverts inwards that is where the guard wraps around and holds on you'll have to bend the end of the guard and insert it in there from the bottom of the machine do that for both sides and make sure it lines up correctly there should also be a lip around the base itself where the furniture guard catches and sits so it doesn't shift up or down while it's on the machine.
