A few weeks ago, I acquired an older Eureka with a plaid bag. I really wanted the plaid bag! But it also had a bad motor bearing. Since Eureka bearings are hard to find, I just bought a new 7 amp motor. When I took it apart to clean, I had plans to paint the hood too. Then I noticed that the base was cracked. So I found a Quick Kleen base on Ebay for $20. When I started to paint the hood, I accidentally cracked the headlight cap! Well, crap! That's when I decided to go whole hog. I bought a new Sanitaire hood, handle, and handle socket.

The only things that are left from my Eureka plaid project are the front axle and wheels, the Dial-a-Nap screw, the hood springs, pedal release spring, and the front axle spring! Everything else is brand new!

It reminds me of Johnny Cash's song -- "One Piece at a Time"!

I forgot to mention that I already had the bumper on hand. I had ordered a thing bumper for a different project and they shipped this wide bumper. I just kept it, thinking I would use it one day.

And of course, I upgraded to the new ST bag system too. The only thing left to do is to find a lower cord hook to match the black quick release model.

I once had the idea to buy every part for a certain Sanitaire and completely assemble it myself. The only problem would be finding screws.

Smart looking! I pieced together what was left of a Sanitare (New base, New bag), $40 later and I had a Sanitare! used it once or twice, then put it in "Storage". That's the game of vacuums!
