Sanitaire fan removal

I'm working on a Dayton "Sanitaire" upright and can't get the fan off. I've tried tapping the wrench with a hammer while holding the fan and it won't move. I've also sprayed some PB Buster and Liquid Wrench to free the pulley and it still will not come off. I can't see a place to stick a screw driver in to keep the armature from moving.


 


Any Suggestions? I know this vacuum hasn't been used in the past fifteen years. Maybe the pulley is just frozen.

Brush Roll

Look at this vibra groomer brush roll. It's split in half. Talk about vacuum abuse. The guy said he used the wrong belt.

Grip the fan with your hand and turn the pulley anti-clockwise, though it's best not to add any lubricants as this will loosen the fan on the armature making it harder to dismantle...

If it is not turning at all, you may have to strip the motor down so you can grip the armature (with your hand preferably, I destroyed my G5's original armature using one of them jar opener things) and try again...

Thanks, I'll try dissembling the motor like you suggested. If I can't get the fan off, I guess I could find another scrap <strong>Sanitaire and use the motor and brush roll out of that.

Real easy on these.

What I do is take two pairs of plyers.

With one, I grip the fan, (or whats left of it), and the other one I twist off the nut.

Thanks guys. I'll try again tonight. I've never had one this difficult. If the fan was replaced in the past someone most have overtightened the pulley. I'm working on this Dayton for my uncle who supervised building maintenance. He said if I didn't fix this one he will have to buy one of my collection pieces. Which is a BIG NO.

it is really that stubborn,break the thing to pieces and then the bolt should come of easily.i had to do that to a busted sanitare base awhile ago,

Air impact wrench set in reverse with the right socket. Works every time, easiest way. That is, if you do have the tools.
