Sanitaire Blue Line Uprights Discontinued

A year or so has passed since Bissell's purchase of the Sanitaire Division of Electrolux and they have decided to make some changes.

Blue "Professional" Line is all but out, with the S635, S645, and S677 uprights as well as the S3681 Mighty-Mite being discontinued. What dealers presently have in stock is it. The "Professional" name is being kept, however and being put on old Bissell models.

The "Commercial" Red line is being kept on as before with some well thought updates to long standing models, eg. the SC886, 887, 888, 889, and 899 are being given detachable power cords and "D" shaped ergonomic handles.

If you want a Sanitaire or old fashioned Eureka-type upright without a heavy 50ft 3 wire commercial cord, go out and buy one now.

This also means that for the first time in history, there is not a machine in production that uses the venerable Eureka style F&G bags being produced with exception of some private label work, all machines retained by Bissell in the red line are shake out, dirt cup, or style ST bags.

I think you're a little late to the game on that. The blue lines been discontinued for sometime. Worse yet most dealers pulled sanitaire from a lineup years ago.
Though I wish anybody luck who wants one of these machines!

I've known for months(I work presently for two different Sanitaire dealers) and have been watching to see if anyone would post about it, but as no one has I decided to make the announcement.

Move over blue line and welcome the Hoover version.
Hoover and eureka have had the a very similar style vacuum. Now Hoover is the new eureka.
If you look on Amazon there is so many different variations.

Bissell commercial line

I was just in a Costco “business center” store we have here. They primarily concentrate on supplies offices and restaurants would need. They had a green bissell commercial upright. Unfortunately I was not impressed. It seems like it is nothing more than their basic power force bagless residential upright model in green with a heavier duty longer cord and a different color scheme with some yellow parts too. I flipped it over to see if perhaps it had a heavier duty brushroller or whelp system. Nope. Same basic plastic junk. Costco usually sells quality items, their vacuum buyers though don’t seem to be the greatest. I don’t know about you...but to me bissell and dirt devil seem to be producing the most cheap and crappy Vacs out there and Hoover and eureka aren’t too far behind anymore. Seems like their development departments are more interested in changing their vacuums looks first and foremost over improving their performance and durability. Guess they are catering and jumping in on the disposable repeat buyer generation for profitability and don’t care about filling landfills, and while most are making their vacuums coded for plastic recycling...who is going to take apart a vacuum completely so the plastic gets recycled?

I see the green bissell “commercial uprights lasting a year or less in regular daily use in offices, etc.

“Proteam” commercial upright noticed

Ok so this makes me remember that this past fall my partner had surgery and so I was headed up to his hospital room when sitting by the elevator was a cleaning cart and a commercial upright that looked a lot like an Aerus/Electrolux. Curious about it I took a closer look at it but there were people waiting for the elevator with me but on another pass as I left the hospital I had a few moments alone to get a closer look at it with no one around. I noticed it had the proteam name on it and was nearly identical in design to the Aerus Electrolux upright and even had a combination dusting brush upholstery tool that is identical to the Aerus/Electrolux design on board. This prompted me to look online and find out more about this machine. Appears to be a copy of the Aerus Electrolux upright and even uses the same style bags. I guess the patents have run out so their products can be closely copied. Not sure if the durability of the proteam product but I can only imagine it probably isn’t better than Aerus original product which is still available in a commercial model. Anyone know more?

Aerus Electrolux is owned by AB Electrolux of Sweden. Proteam is owned by Emerson.
Maybe there Patten has expired. The two vacuums look like twins.

Is the United States Aerus Electrolux truly owned by Electrolux AB of Sweden now? I thought the US Aerus was its own company.

Aerus is still it's own company. It has been completely separate from AB Electrolux of Sweden since 1935.

I forgot to mention that Aerus sold the patent for the Lux 4000 upright to ProTeam. Aerus still has the patent on the current Guardian and CommerciaLux uprights.

what about the backpacks

Does anyone know if the Sanitaire backpack vacuums are still made? I think The Sanitaire backpack is one of the best onesavailable, quiet, comfortable and powerful.

I looked at 3 or 4 different sites and sanitaire backpack vacuums are still available. I want to say there red. I think Bissell wants to own the blue color.
The proteam backpacks are better(ratings and almost every site).
I have a royal backpack vacuum. I noticed royal backpack vacuum is now Hoover's backpack.
I have seen and used a Hoover backpack vacuum with 2 20 volt batteries. I wasn't impressed but it's only commercial cordless I've tried.

I, for one, think the discontinuation of the F&G style bag units is a good thing. I much prefer the cardboard collar on the ST style bags over a paper fill tube on the F&G style bags that's held in place with a rubber band or spring.

Dirt cups that's a plastic dump bin with a bag attached. I think you call it plastic crap.
I'm jk I used my sanitaire a few times recently. I looked at the bag and its thick and quite large.
The sanitaire brand you get 6-$20. I may look into alternative manufacturers. It takes a little getting used to the bearer bar sound. It deep cleans excellent and it's pretty light I'm guessing 15lbs. I also have the adapter to use a hose. It's good for furniture and stairs.

F&G Blue Sanitaire with ST Dirt Tube

I have a couple of 5 amp Sanitaires that I use regularly. I have the s635a with an ST dirt tube so that it uses the superior ST bags. I really like that setup for at home, as the belts last much longer than on my 7 amp Sanitaires on my home carpet and rugs. The ST bag seems to have less restriction than the F&G bag, especially when the bag has been used for a while. We have two dogs and a cat at home, so the vacuum gets plenty of use. The ST bags seem to filter far better than the F&G bags did.

At my second job, a custodial job for a church, I use the sc679 with an F&G bag setup on it. I like the F&G bag well enough on that one because I buy Eureka F&G bags for about $1.00 each and use one per week. The ST bags usually cost me more like $3.00 each. Since the latch-style F&G bag I have won't work with the ST dirt tube, I'm happy to keep buying the cheap Eureka branded F&G bags for it. (I buy my own supplies.)

It's amazing how much dirt gets collected on the business grade carpet at the church over the course of one week. The Sanitaire seems to do a very good job with the Vibragroomer 1 brushroll (all brush, no beaterbar) I use in it.

I will also say that I have considered purchasing a second s635 and keeping it in its box, as a keepsake for myself. I don't expect it to be particularly valuable later, with its 5 amp "blender" motor, but I'm young enough to appreciate it later on. I have an extra ST dirt tube that I can keep alongside it in case I decide to put the vacuum to use some day.

7 amp

My eureka imperial and my sanitaire is667a are both 7 amps. The ST setup filters really well. The f&g is hard to tell because bags have so much paper tubing.
The belts on my sanitaire broke all the time with eureka belts. I put sanitizer belts on it and it's wore but it hasn't broke yet. Turning off machine for height adjustment I think helps slot.
I want to get the sanitaire power flite in blue with aluminum hood. I like the blue sanitaire bag. The sanitaire has power switch on the handle. The attachment for a hose it's pretty good. If the brush roll pulls about 140 CFM I'm guessing the six foot hose is pulling 75 CFM. There also really life.

backpack and vibra groomer

I actually have a Proteam super coach backpack, it's ok but I actually like the Sanitaire 535 better but this may just be personal preference.
Does anyone know the history of the vibra groomer? I think there was a VG 1, a VG 2 and a VG 3 but what is the difference between them? Do all of the VG brushes clean well or were some better than others? I have a universal Eureka power nozzle that works with central vacuum electric hoses and also works with canister vacuums that have electric hoses. I think it's called the Eureka express and I've been told that it uses the VG 3, I will include a link for it if anyone wants to have a look.
