Sadie the cleaning lady and GE Oceania

Hey guys, I’m curious has anybody seen any of these vacuum cleaners? For what I know they were made in New Zealand and I’ve only seen them here in Australia, it’s essentially a paint tin with a vacuum motor in it and vacuum fittings, they look somewhat like a shop Vac fitting to me, but I’m not really sure, It’s one that I’ve been looking around for for a bit of time but everyone that I’ve seen always seems to come up short

Had a very similar one I sold from my grandfather's estate. Not the same, obviously, but the same idea... a paint tin with a vacuum motor in it. I recall the fittings looked similar, but the way the top is latched on was different.

If it uses similar Shop Vac fittings it will be very narrow diameter old style.

To me it looks like a Sunbeam VC100 that we got here in the USA.

I wonder if they use motors with a similar mounting system

Several 60s and 70s indoor/outdoor vacs had a styling like that Sunbeam. Singer, Shop Vac and I think Shelton and Sears/Craftsman all come to mind. I wonder if some of them were made by somebody else and just had different graphics/branding at least in some cases?

I don't recall ever seeing a GE branded version here though.

I found one and brought it, although it does look like it would need new stickers and tank, but apart from that they look okay

Tip

If you can find a vacuum bag to fit the inlet it increases power quite a bit.
My shop vac I bought bags for it and once installed it's pushing over 150 cfms. It was okay performance before but the bag brings out the power.

That vac is in great shape, needs nothing but some soap and water, dry in the sun, motor service, and she's ready to go.

It’s meant to be semi bag-less Because instead of the bag holding The dirt, it acts as a an unpleated filter, Although I will test to see if it has the same shop Vac fittings

Although knowing the canister the labels look a bit faded, and at the moment I’m not sure if it works but for 30 bucks if it doesn’t I can get the motor rewound

Bit of a necro post here, but I have almost exactly that Sadie in pieces on my workbench right now. Lid latch are three flip-over-pull-down style clips rather than the ring band that yours seems to be, but otherwise identical. Sadly, the thing was working perfectly until the roof leaked on it the other week and it developed a light coating of rust inside the tank... And motor.

The tank is fine. Hell, it could be replaced with a big paint tin if it comes to that. But the motor needs a clean and service. Which I'm able to do.. IF I can work out how to get the damn thing apart. It appears to be welded or fused together inside a galvanised tin looking can, and I don't want to just give up and cut it open if it turns out there's something dead simple that I'm overlooking to getting it apart.

Does anyone have any idea on this? I can post pics if required.
