I found this Eureka 2089A for free on a curb. It seems to work fine, the only issue is the rugulator slowly walks down to the low setting while I'm vacuuming.

I tried looking for a parts diagram, but this model seems to be absent from sites I looked at. Does anyone know if there is a part I can replace to make the rugulator behave? Or what vacuum models would share the same parts?

The

Front wheel axle raises it up. If you don't have it attached correctly it's going to flip up and down with the axle.

I had one purchased very reasonable from craigslist 10 years ago. Cleaned up nicely, very powerful! Landlady fell in love with it dickering ensued, she purchased for 50 bucks and still loves it!

There’s also supposed to be a spring attached to the front axle. It keeps the axle up against the height mechanism and that’s what holds the adjustment in place. If the spring is missing then the height adjustment will slip.

Thanks Les. What part are you referring to when you say "If you don't have it attached correctly?" Upward pressure on the wheels seems to lock the slider in place. I can try to open it up this weekend to see what is going on.

I had a cheap hoover from Walmart that self destructed after a few years and I was considering buying a new sanitaire, then my neighbor put this out on the curb. It's not my favorite color scheme (now that I see the 70's ESPs on this site with cool stripes and colors), and the hood is beat up, but for the price I can't complain!

Oops, I missed the spring comment, thanks luxlife.

Does anyone know how the hood is held on? I see some models have springs and others have two screws.

Ok thanks everyone. As luxlife suggested the axle spring is missing. It took me a while to realize the spring goes on the bottom and doesn't need the hood removed for access.
