Royal sweep action vacuum

I have a vintage royal sweep action i was wondering if the port on top is to oil the motor?on the fan housing it says sweep action by p.a geier model 228 any one have any idea how old this is.

Yes, that is an oil port. Should be 2 of them, the one shown in the picture and another toward the back. Use 3 in 1 Electric Motor Oil (NOT regular 3 in 1 oil) and put several drops in each port once a year. Your pics were a bit dark, could you take a few more in brighter light? Hope this helps.

These pics are MUCH better! And I can see the rear oil port in the second pic. Sorry I can't pinpoint just when this machine was built, but I can tell you that it was later than 1928, as that was the year that P.A. Geier redesigned the fancase and reversed the direction of the motor. Before that, the bag connected to the opposite side from where yours connects.
