Royal SURPRIZE!

I was working on cleaning strings wrapped around the brushroll of my brand new Royal CR5128 metal upright.To my surprize the nameplate mentioned the machine was "Assembled" in the US.Looked at two others I have-they say built in China.The US assembly is encouraging!Hope this continues-Is Royal going to maove production back to the US?Something to ponder!

That would be welcome miracle. Still, I wonder if American workmanship with the current generations of young people comes with the same level of pride as compared to vintage builders that built with passion and devotion to excellence back in the day. I doubt it.

The one you have that says "Assembled in USA" is likely the newest one, the two that you have that were Chinese-made being the older ones. Apparently, your newest CR5128 was assembled at the former Oreck plant in Cookeville, TN.

I reply:
I teach at a community college and recently heard the chair of the diesel program--whose name is also Bill--remark that today's students seem to be more interested in getting their next tattoo than in learning the skills necessary to have a career. Sadly, I have to concur.

Now the mystery of the "US Assembled" Royal has been solved.Glad they are making an effort to build these in the US-figure the US is the major market where metal uprights are bought and used.Remember when folks had PRIDE they could build things in the US and build them as thought they were going to use the item themselves.Industry here can get us out of the recession we are STILL in.Maybe if people can be made to understand that the manufacturering job can allow them to earn the money to get that tatto-then they might change their attitudes!Deisel techs are in demand-so the student should learn this lucrative trade.Will land him a GOOD job!
