Hi,
On a number of old Royal uprights, canisters and hand vacs, the serial # seems to reset back to 1001 or so. I would think such occurrences may be due to an improved motor design or something.
Examples of historic Royal models whose serial #s have been reset:
401
Highest known serial # before reset: E80-D-87933 (May 1980)
501
Highest known serial # before reset: K80-B-245496 (October 1980)
Serial reset in 1982 with 2 amp motor (example: G82-D-38467).
801
Highest known serial # before reset: 78F-C-124046 (June 1978)
880
Serial reset in 1976 with newly-rated 3 amp motor (example: 67L-C-02854, November 1976)
Highest known serial # before production end: C87G093068 (March 1987)
Again, why had Royal reset serial # sequencing on some of their long-running models?
