A new member wanting to spiff up my mom's !959 (or so) Model AF (or F) cannister vacuum

I'm 79 years old and not a vacuum cleaner officianado. I just can't seem to find the information I need it to get it to run more like new. I think the suction is as bit lacking even with no bag.

There is a few things. Don't use it with no bags if you are actually cleaning, that is important. The hose will be the most likely problem, they leak air and aren't sealed after a few decades. Some photos would help/ be great. Also, are you open to doing DIY repairs?
