Royal Power Tank 4000

The power beater head on my workhorse Royal Power Tank 4000 has bit the dust, no pun intended. I took it to the local vacuum store and the guy told me to forget about it. It's too old, no parts available, etc. and he tried to sell me a new cleaner.
Well, I like to keep the old stuff going if possible. My questions are: is it fixable or was this just a normal problem with this model and would a second hand powerhead for a 4400 work in its place?

Could you post a picture of it? The early royal power heads were filter queen designs. Depending on what is wrong with it there is a good chance it's savable. Honestly if the housing is still good I can get the rest of the components.

My wife's the photographer. I'll get her to take a photo and I'll post. It is a model 4000 power head. I bought the cleaner in about 1990 or 91 or so. Next to the model number, it says Plant (either) 4 or A, I can't quite make it out. The SN is k89a003410 if that'll give a clue about who made it or what kind of guts are in it.

This looks like the power nozzle you have. Hesco is a good vacuum part website, so they should hopefully have what you need.

That is made by filter queen.

Do you know what's wrong with the head? I'm guessing it could be repAired for under 50 bucks

motor doesn't work

I don't know what's wrong with it specifically. The motor just doesn't work. I think there's juice going to it. It just doesn't work. When I took it back to the guy I bought it from, he said that model powerhead was junk. Didn't know if that was the prevailing thinking industry wide or if he just didn't want to be bothered.

Dennis, that power nozzle is at best a good match for low-med. pile carpet, not much of a deep cleaner IMHO. It looks like you can order parts for it, and I'd spring for a new brushroll for sure to give it the best chance for being a decent cleaner. I have the same power nozzle, only chrome topped, on one of my Filter Queens but do not use it on my plush pile carpet because I have always thought Filter Queen power nozzles were lackluster performers. If you want to replace it, due to the wand connection, you'd have to stick with the same style power nozzle.
