Royal canisters- any fans?

Hello everyone! Who here likes the Royal PowerTeam canisters? I love them. I have 4 at the moment, but two are getting new bearings. They just last forever. All of these came as trade-ins at the repair store where I work, and all of them have at least a few thousand hours on them. They are all mis-matched- my DD PowerTank has a cordovan hose from a lower model with the TOTL blue canister and attachments.


I'll introduce myself more in the other forum, and post pics of all of my vacuums.

I really like them. I have always wanted one, but, they discontinued making them. I was just curious, how is the suction on them? Are they as powerful as the Everlast's suction?

Suction-

The suction is incredible. That cordovan hose is 10 feet long, and the vacuum develops more suction than most even with the motor slowed down. With the other 8 foot blue hose I have, the suction is a little bit more.

It is the only vacuum I have encountered where you really need to slow the motor down- when using any nozzle except the power nozzle at full power, it sticks to the surface (including the floor) and has to be yanked off.

I have that same machine. Right now it stays in Galena at a home that I care for. You are correct the machine has awesome suction and air flow, the Haden powerhead is one of the best on the market, so it makes for a great cleaning machine.

Mine is complete with all the correct attachments and hose...I will see if I can find a picture. Rick Asquith brought as a sale item to the Omaha convention and I purchased it. It has been completely serviced.

I've always been an upright kinda guy, with Kirby's and Royals being my favorites, but if I were to invest in or collect tanks, it would surly be a Royal Powertank. They just look so beefy and sturdy.

Yes!- have a few Royal canisters in my collection-very powerful,sturdy,and substnatial machines-so STUPID of TTI to stop making them.The plastic cansiter TTI makes for Royal now is a cruel cheap joke.If you use the powernozzle a lot on the Royal tanks-the small bag fills FAST!Sometime will take out a Royal "Torpedo" and use it!!

While we're on the subject

My blue Royal has been having intermittent trouble with the motor cutting out unless you pick the machine up by the carrying strap. Has anyone else had this kind of trouble with theirs?

Which model? Do you have the speed control on the hose handle? If so, it could be the electrical connection from the hose to the vacuum body. Since the electrical outlet in the same strip of metal that the handle is in, picking it up might restore the connection.

If you have the sliding speed controller on the body, one of the wires may have an erratic connection. Since the cutout is integrated into that same metal piece mentioned earlier, picking it up could effect the connection.

The way the sliders are wired is that they are connected to AC line on one side and the speed control on the other. If the connection is open or has very high resistance, the motor won't see any power.


If it's not that, I'd pull the cord halo off the back and make sure all of the wirenuts are tight. If picking it up solves the problem, I doubt you have motor problems. The motors in these are extremely durable and can be rebuilt with ease.

Hello Gentlemen!

Those Royal Tank cleaners are wonderful!
So sad that they discontinued them a few years ago!
I purchased a Model #775 on E-Bay this last week.
It is Item #280456621522..take a look on E-bay and tell me if you know what era this model is from. I thought it was a little unusual and that frosty mint green caught my eye!
It reminded me of a "Thermos" bottle!! ...cool design!

Thermos Green! Perfect colour match.
This is my Dad's One Quart Widemouth early 1960s Thermos which I use to take stews and soups to work - the glass liner really holds the steaming heat all day.
With my only Pony - Classic Power team in dark red/Burgundy (Whinetone?). And the colourful Smarties/M&Ms array of a few Compacts...

And yes, for those who wonder, those logos on the blue 66's are factory installed. On the left one the sheetmetal was stamped, painted and roll-formed wrong side out.

My Canadian Tire brand Master cylinder made by Switson Industries circa 1957 through 1962 is a similar green, if that helps dating this hue.

i do love royals and have many uprights and various royal clones BUT have no tanks. would love a pony with the metal rug tool, etc and 231 canister.

I have a chrome Royal pony, 1963, it is a great little cleaner with the optional cordwinder,also a Royal swivel top canister from63 that is pink, these are great vacs, nothing today even comes close!

Love them I want a blue one buttttt....

I have one like Daves,but its not in as good of shape,It needs the PN light cover and its missing 2 attachments. Oh yea and I need the slider speed control. But I sill love it its VERY powerful, the bags do fill quickly to.

I loke Royal canisters except for me the tool caddy on the top is a hassle.
