Just when I had thought I had lost interest in Royal canisters, then this shows up. That thing is totaly cool. I never knew they had beater bars on those PNs. It looks like a good performer but I think the later filter queen PNs look a bit better.
Is that speed control in front of the switch? I never knew they had that.
I guess the big question is: Did all the cool features come on the blue version? I like blue!

Yes that's a speed control switch on the vacuum. As far as the options on the older blue model, I'm not sure. The one thing I do know is that some of the blue models had the speed control on the hose handle. I think that is cool, wish mine had that. Mine only has an on/off switch on the handle.
Do you really like the Filter Queen made power nozzle better than the Kenmore style power nozzle? When I referred to the Filter Queen power nozzle above, I was talking about the ones that came with the Triple Crown which were huge and like pushing a shoe box around. I wasn't referring to the newer style like on the 360.

I've always had my eyes open for one of those... they seem like they'd be great vacuums! I know they're built like tanks!

The filter queen nozzle is like the one in the link. When I look at the baseplate I can see how they might be problematic in terms of edge cleaning, but they look cool when cleaned up nice.

Yeah that's the Filter Queen style power nozzle I was talking about. I really don't like them, but we all have our own opinions. 
I wonder if Royal still makes these vacuums. The date that was stamped on mine was 06/06/01. I was surprised, I figured it was older than that.

That was the LAST of the Royal canisters to have the PN. They continued to make a grey one for a while but with no PN. It might have had a plug for one but I don't think so. That didn't go over well because who would want to pay that much for a canister and not have the PN so it died altogether.
So if any of you have that Royal (burgany colored) it is a keeper since it was the last.
I have the blue one and it still looks like new. I agree that the filter queen PN is not as good but I also agree that it looks pretty groovy. What do you all think of the new filter queen PN. I have one and I like it but I don't know if I love it.

Royal "PowerTanks" in my opinion are one of the strongest machines in terms of suction. They were also very well-built and for the money I think they were a better deal than an Electrolux (sorry-as much as I love Luxes) was, especially the newer luxes. Royal retained their old-world quality a lot longer than Electrolux.
The only problem I have experienced with the Royal tanks, particularly the sky-blue model (which I can't recall the model number)is that the armatures had a tendency to go bad on them. I have one machine that needs a new motor-yet it's in near mint color. Green and blue light can be seen when you look into the back and you can smell metal. I do recall another vac club member telling me that the holes in the bottom of the tank did not allow enough air to flow through and that was perhaps one of the causes. He also advised me to cut a circle of chicken wire and place that over the larger holes first and then add the filter pad on top. This may help to increase air flow and to allow the motor to run cooler.
Has anyone ever heard of this before? Anyone agree or disagree?
