I recently ordered a royal 994 off mercari. I’m curious as to if anyone knows the brushroll type, and if this takes Royal B bags? Also does it have the BSI light? Is this a top of the line machine?

The 994 does not have the BSI light, but the 996 did.
This machine used two different brush rolls, depending on the production timeframe: if your 994 was manufactured during the 1990-92 timeframe, it would have had a square-ended brush roll, part no. 2-188273-000. But if it was manufactured during the 1992-95 timeframe, it would have the hex-ended brush roll, part no. 2-673273-000.
Yes, the 994 used the type B disposable bags and along with the 996 was indeed the top-of-the-line machine in Royal's stable of metal uprights at the time of manufacture.
