i bought a belt lifter for the rug nozzle part of it & it does not fit.any suggestion on how to install it ? it had the regular cover but i wanted to put the belt lifter on because it has the removable rug nozzle.

Missed the boat on my explanation. If your nozzle doesn't have the adapror on it that Jeff showed it will not fit. The gasket pushes the fan shift further awY fro. The housing and the belt won't attach.
Take a pic of the backside of your nozzle. The belt lifter should t be installed.
If you show us the rear of the nozzle I can tell you if it's the right one.

I'm also thinking that the hole in the nozzle where the cover plate goes might be machined differently on the models that came with the belt lifter. That might be why the belt lifter doesn't fit on yours, because it wasn't made for it. But besides that, you also need the nozzle latch if you're planning on removing the nozzle on a regular basis, and the adapter that I showed you on the other post if you want to use attachments with the nozzle removed.
In my opinion you should just leave it the way you got it instead of trying to "turn your 903 into a 980." You'll save yourself a lot of bother and expense, especially considering how hard it is to find the latch and hose adapter. Either way, good luck with your project.

The
Nozzle looks right.
If you put the nozzle on take off the bottom plate and brush roll. Does the fan shaft fit a belt lifter.
If the nozzle fits and the shaft can fit a belt lifter there is likely the belt lifter isn't made for that model.
If you have a drill press and a vise you could clamp down the nozzle and use a bi metal hole saw the exact size. Metal on metal would whip the nozzle. You'd get hit with a nozzle or anything within 15 to 20 feet could get hit by the nozzle.
You could use a file and widen the opening. You could use a dremmel type tool and widen the hole. The edges would need filed down.
The above ideas are potentially dangerous.
I'll tell a story. I have a 12 Amp 9 inch Dewalt corded buffer. I had a kirby tradition nozzle. I was buffing the nozzle and it wasn't clamped down. The nozzle slipped out of my grasp and the nozzle flew 50 feet. If it flew towards my house it would have shattered my French glass doors. If it flew up it would have hurt me maybe killed me. That's the end of the story.
