Royal 886-how do you adjust the brush height?

Hey guys-

My Royal 886 model arrived today with no manual. Couple of questions:

1. How is brush height adjusted? (Can't figure!)

2. Is the red port for oil? If so, how often do you add for an average household of two vacuuming once a week?

3.Anybody have a copy of the user or operator's guide manual? I need one for the 886.

David is partially right. The method he referred to compensates for wear as the brush wear down. However, the method for regular use is a bit different. At the back of your Royal you should find a knob, and in front, the adjust-o-rite cover plate with a button in the center. Turn the knob clockwise to lower the nozzle, and counterclockwise to raise.
To adjust for your carpet, first raise the nozzle just above the height of the carpet. Then start the machine, and gradually lower the nozzle while watching the button on the adjust-o-rite. When the button pulls in, you're at the right height for your carpet. If you have a plain cover plate without the adjust-o-rite indicator, raise the nozzle, turn on the machine, then listen for a change in the motor sound as you gradually lower the nozzle, and that will indicate proper height. You may also find you might need to lower the nozzle a little more after the adjust-o-rite pops in. With a little experimenting you'll find what works for you.
