Christmas came early this year! Our old vacuum seized up about a week ago. The carpet won't wait another week and a half, so I got to open my Royal CR5128Z today.

Initial impressions:
This is my first high-end vacuum. Wow, what a difference. This thing is a dirt eraser! One pass forward/back and everything's gone. Dog hair, food bits, the little crud that gets tracked in from outside: GONE. The carpet looks the best it has in years.

My previous vacuum had 3" of fake nozzle. I thought I was vacuuming 12" strips, but it turns out I only got 9" at a time. (My husband is making jokes next to me.) The Royal gets 13" at a shot and is noticeably better both on bare floor and carpets.

Infinite height adjustment is a Good Thing. Nothing against other options, but I'm 100% sold on the precision adjustment of that heavy-duty screw.

The 10A motor sounds like a large shop-vac. I'm fine with that but individual tolerances vary.

I did a bunch of research on this forum prior to purchase. Thanks to the many posters who commented (including positive/negative) on Royal vacuums. I'm a fan!

Hint:
When you put a new Royal together, a couple of chain links like to stay tucked inside bag. We almost ripped the bag trying to make the chain reach before my husband figured that out.

Question:
How far in is the adjust-o-rite button supposed to move? The manual says the height is correct when the button "begins to move inward". That's kind of vague. Should it move a little? All the way down? Most of the way?

I think the button should just start to suck in but you can experiment till it feels like it's working without tearing things up or being hard to push around. I have a Royal/Stark 5700 top of the line unit and I just played with it till it seemed to be cleaning well without bogging down myself and that is just when the button starts to pull in. Probably also listen to the sound change as it drops into the carpet like they do with the Kirbys.
They are great carpet cleaners and really groom them and deep clean them well. Mine has the 7 amp motor and has plenty of power and isn't too noisy. If that thing is super loud use foam ear plugs when you use it. I do sometimes and always when I use my gas mower outside as it's really noisy and I like my hearing.

Michael,

Yes, as Terry (dartman) says, you adjust the height downward until the Adjust-O-Rite stub goes inward along with the change of sound, and then if desired, to turn the Rite-Hite knob clockwise just one more turn.

And as you would with adjusting the height on a Kirby (as Terry also said)... do not adjust too low as that would make the machine hard to push and also break the belt.

Would like to have your vacuum in Photo #4

@vacuumdevil: The brushroll seized up, and it's moderately beaten up from use, but you're welcome to it. My email address should be in my profile if you want to connect.

Hey

I believe that's newer version of the 1030z I had for a little bit.
You might want to get other vacuum out of the way it's likely to chew it up and spit it out.

Never seen the Royal video that was shown in the link-good video! The Royal rep did the penny test differently for Bill and I at the Vacuum Cleaner Hospital--when it was still open.He had just delivered MANY Royal uprights for sale and for the local school system. The rep put the hose adaptor on one of the machines-they had the grey dump bags. The fellow started the vacuum and let it suck like 4 pennys from the palm of his hand. Then he removed the screws on the back of the fancase showing the easy access. The fan suffered very little damage-one blade nicked-another very slightly bent. The machine is still perfectly usable. The dirtmeter used on the demo looks like one for a Filter Queen vacuum.Have one of those-will have to see if it can fit the Royal. For those pennys-they were all bent over when taken out of the bag!
