Royal 880- hot rod it, yes or no?

I am mid spa-session with this Royal i won at auction from the Tucson Arizona Goodwill. As a testimony to the light weight nature of these Royals shipping was reasonable at $15.
Anyhow, whilst it is disassembled should i change out the fairly pristine fan and/or the 3 amp motor? And if so, what is a good parts source for the upgrades?
In the pic the nozzle has been cleaned but the rest only partially. This has a lot of desert dust on it but no grime to speak of...other than the bag which now looks like new, but required over an hour of hand washing to sparckle as it should.

Serial # means this unit was built in September 1976.

As to changing the internals to something stronger: such parts/assemblies will likely need to be procured from later Royals of the '80s and early '90s.

The Royal service manual from TTI says these upgrades can be used:

TO 5.4 AMP OR 6 AMP MOTOR
Armature: 1680001000 (NLA)
Field: 1618002000
Motor plate assembly: 2088007500 (NLA)
Fan: 1608005000
Shaft: 1380261000

TO 7 AMP MOTOR
Armature: 1780001000
Field: 1780002000
Motor plate assembly: 2088007500 (NLA)
Fan: 1608005000
Shaft: 1380261000

NLA = no longer available; procure from donor (March 1995 or older) Royals containing said parts.

My question for a Royal expert would be... would putting a 9 blade fan into a low amp machine ,like my 606a, give it stronger air-flow or would I need to replace the motor too. I love my 606a, but it has rather weak air-flow/suction. How would that be best addressed?

You could try doing that but the replacement 9-blade fan will be a different part # than that used on 1990 and later machines that already have it.

9-blade impeller fans used in replacement for pre-1990 machines are all of a threaded design:
#1608004000 = 1/4" (0.25mm) shaft hole
#1620004000 = 5/16" (0.3125mm) shaft hole

The original 6-blade impeller fan, #1053004000, had a 7/32" (0.2188mm) shaft hole.

Again: the 9-blade fan used on original production of 1990 and later Royal uprights is a slip-on design, but the 9-blade impeller fans used in replacement are threaded.
